@imbasile_ performs "The More I Love" live at The PENYC Sessions. Exploring the complications that exist in relationships

"The More I Love came to me while listening to an interview, a famous person memoir piece, and she was talking about how a woman should always leave her man if he cheats on you … calling him a piece of s____ and all the rest. And then the interviewer asks about her own alleged affair, to which she replies that it’s okay because “I don’t think he ever knew”. All of which felt pretty emotionally complicated. So this tune just explores the confusion or hidden boundaries that can exist in a relationship" - @imbasile_

@andreawittgens performs “Fun House” live at The PENYC Sessions.

“Funhouse” is about all the distorted stories our minds make up about ourselves and others. If we keep them around long enough, they start to become our reality as seen through a funhouse mirror. The album version of this song is very guitar-driven and gritty, so it was a fun challenge to get that same dark and unhinged sound out of a piano. The grand at PEN Studios is a beautiful beast, though, and playing it is like having an orchestra under your fingers. In some ways performing it solo like that felt more raw and personal." - @andreawittgens

@maxiemmusic performs “Peace of Mind” live at PENYC Sessions.

At just 21 years old, the Philadelphia-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter brings her single to life in an intimate live performance.

""Peace of Mind" was born out of feelings of frustration and resentment in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election. I expected the masses to be upset and outraged at the result like me, but instead I felt like I was drowning in a sea of neutrality. If you ever find yourself desperate to relate to someone or find common ground, this song is for you."

"What Kind of Man" is out now on The PENYC Sessions.

@litvar comes together for an intimate performance of the original track from their album "Being Here", exploring identity, self-reflection, and the weight of living up to the expectations of those who shape who you are.

"I wrote What Kind of Man following the come down of a pretty bad panic attack. But despite that memory it's tied to, when we play this song live, I am overcome with joy and I can't help but fight the urge to laugh at the irony of that."

@lostleadersmusic perform “Atalanta” live for The PENYC Sessions, an intimate new take on the original track from the RUN Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Written by Lost Leaders’ @thebyronisaacs and @the_legit_peter_cole and originally performed by @amyhelmmusic for the RUN soundtrack, “Atalanta” is brought back to its roots in this special live performance.

"Atalanta was our first time writing for a movie soundtrack & was written to reflect the story of the main character. Having Amy Helm sing it and then seeing it in the movie made it feel like hearing someone else's song and we got to appreciate it as listeners and not just as the writers. It came out better than we could have hoped." - Lost Leaders

"Out Now on The PENYC Sessions: @sambarsh performs “The Earl of Essex County.”

Sam plays an acoustic piano version of “Earl of Essex County” which is a fully improvised song recently released on his album “Straight08” with trumpeter Keyon Harrold and drummer Mark Guiliana.

"6 of the albums’s 11 tracks were improvised, but this track in particular really felt like a song—I wanted to highlight that by performing it solo piano. I recreated each melodic section that we came up with on the original, and in the true spirit of jazz, I improvised in between." - Sam

@jjappleton brings the grit, soul and fire of “Nobody’s Fault but Mine” to the PENYC studio.

This is JJ's take on the oft-covered Blind Willie Johnson’s “Nobody’s Fault But Mine”. While Appleton’s version honors the original, he makes it his own using a foot-stomping, clawhammer slide guitar technique mixed with his signature, passionate vocals. “ I love this song - there’s a lot of finger-pointing going on in the world these days from the top down,” Appleton states. “We could all use a little more self-reflection, humility, and generosity of spirit from time to time.”

Appleton has worked with a wide range of artists from David Bowie to Kesha - but for the last 10 years he has cemented his place on the US and European blues club/festival circuit performing often with "harmonica God" Jason Ricci. Their studio releases “Dirty Memory” and “Beautiful Slop” were met with wide critical acclaim, and the duo will be recording a new release in November 2026.

@bittersweetmusicofficial took the PENYC Sessions stage and delivered a lush, cinematic set that left everyone wanting more.

"It was a really intimate and cool moment to be able to perform this very dark, cinematic and big production of a song with nothing other than voice and guitar for PENNYC sessions. I love when something that was written to be so electronic can turn into such a stripped back version with nothing to hide behind .

I wrote this song with the very talented Tony Esterly . (SIA, BTS) Navigating recent feelings of thinking "I really knew someone but then realizing I didn’t know them at all, I was hurt and angry and wished I had more control over my thoughts at that moment instead of feeling as bad as I did.
So , what better time to write".
