A little wax, a lot of laughs, and some seriously great scents! 🕯️💫 Had the best time with Jamie, Val, and Jenn at our candle-making class with Sue of Bungalow Candle Studio. Can’t wait to do it again! 🍁🫶🏼

It’s official: in 24 hours, I will be 24 years old.

While there are no major milestones commonly associated with being 24, I can’t think of any good reason why growing up shouldn’t be celebrated.

Over this past year, I have undergone some drastic changes: I no longer live at home, I have changed jobs, and I have learned more about myself than I thought there was to know. Which is mildly nerve-wracking in some ways, terrifying in others, and in even more ways, so exciting. I know I don’t always get “it” right, whatever “it” is, but with every day comes new graces and opportunities to do “it” a little better.

Something that’s been resonating with me is the phrase “The time will pass anyways.” Go on the trip. See the friend. Do the workout. Get the sleep. Have the hard conversation. Do “it” afraid, do “it” without knowing exactly what will happen, do “it” with grace, do “it” with understanding.

I am lucky to be surrounded by people who love me and by people who want me to succeed in everything that I do, and for that, I am forever grateful for you. And to be able to say that I got to spend another year with you all is so special and wonderful. Thank you for always pushing me, cheering me on, catching me when I fall, and being a light in my life.

Growing up can be so terrifying. The “what if’s” play constantly, and yet… the time will pass anyways. Thank you for making my time something I cherish and something I look forward to spending with love and care and concern. 💜

I’m still getting used to reforming my idea of what love is. The older I get and the more I learn and the more time I spend living life, the more I realize it’s not all 3 day love stories and they live happily ever after. It’s not always fireworks and soulmates and love at first sight. It’s not even always romantic. Sometimes it is all of those things and more, sure, but sometimes it’s having taco salads with your best friends at their apartment. Sometimes it going camping and talking about things we’ve never told anyone else before. Sometimes it’s a phone call and just saying “I love you” right before you hang up. Sometimes it’s your dog licking your face even though you were an hour late to feed him. Sometimes it’s meeting your sister’s boyfriend and trying to be the cool big brother. Sometimes it’s taking a shower when you don’t want to. Sometimes it’s going on that run you’ve been dreading all day and wanting to die walking back, but you do it anyways. No, the longer I live and the more I learn to love and to be loved, the more I see that it is not some unattainable, once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon. It’s truly everywhere. It’s in a touch, it’s in a look, it’s in words both said and unsaid. It’s there whether you see it or not. That’s beautiful. It’s like the air. Ever present. How will you choose to feel the wind today? How will you choose to fill your lungs with it? How will you choose to let it carry your words? These are the things I’ve been thinking about lately. These are the things we live for. These are the things we LOVE for.

I looked out the window of the train headed for anywhere. The 10am, because I’ve never been one for mornings. On the other side of the glass, you stood, your eyes misty with tears, rubbed red from pretending you weren’t crying. “I love you,” I thought, “You don’t have to wait, I know it’s cold.” And in some sick moment of fate aligning with my very thoughts, the car lurched forward, and you looked to the front of my train. You smiled, and looked back up to me, as if you needed my permission for this. I smiled back to you, and wiped my face. You started to walk along side my window, matching the train stride for stride. You laughed as you moved, running now, and as you ran, I thought maybe you’d start to fly and meet me when I got there. The platform ended, or maybe you got tired, but you stopped, and waved one more time.
I saw you so clearly. I will someday forget the faces of my own children, but I will never forget you, who ran after the train.

I love you. And I hope you find people who will run after your train, just for one final glance, one last smile, one more precious goodbye. I feel lucky to know that I’ve found those people in my life. This is my way of saying thank you to those of you whose trains I’d run after.
