Most of the time I’m thinking about skateboarding. The other things I think about are part of the reason I skateboard. It’s been a learning experience since I started in the late 80’s where I was drawn to the neon graphics and plastic accessories. While trick names like Wallies, acid drops, board slides were met with some serious, head scratching curiosity. Reading this far you may start to roll your eyes. But skaters are often insanely smart, sophisticated, and friendly. You may have to get past some awkwardness but underneath that is a beautiful underlying structure. It’s a hard space to describe, it takes some nerve to do it throughout a lifetime.

@georgecutright introduced himself to me at Slow Impact in Tempe in 2024 and the guy seemed to have never met a stranger. It was clear he was genuine when he shot the pictures. He seemed to look through his lens a long time. Long enough for me to settle down in an unfamiliar environment. I’m glad to see he’s put all this in a book and made my day to see myself in the mix.

I also enjoy photography and through skateboarding have met and worked with some great ones. Maybe I’ve said too much already. I just find a book or a photo deserves some words though they often don’t do the work the justice it deserves. I hope to alas proclaim my devotion to skateboarding, photography, creativity, and the raddest group of people I could ever have hoped to meet.
