POWERLIFTING RULES EXPLAINED: WEIGH-INS & WEIGHT CLASSES ⚖️ ⚖️ 1. OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN Your bodyweight is officially recorded during the designated weigh-in period. You must meet the requirements for your registered weight class. 🏋️ 2. KNOW YOUR WEIGHT CLASS Powerlifting divides competitors into bodyweight categories. Your weight class determines the bodyweight limit you need to make—not the amount of weight you can lift. ⏱️ 3. KNOW YOUR WEIGH-IN SCHEDULE Don’t assume every meet follows the same timetable. Weigh-in windows, procedures, and what happens if you miss your registered class are governed by the competition’s applicable rules. 📌 BEFORE MEET DAY: * Confirm your registered weight class. * Check the official weigh-in schedule. * Know the rules for your competition. * Plan ahead instead of leaving everything until the last minute. Remember: competing isn’t just about lifting heavy. It’s also about being prepared. #Powerlifting #IPF #PAP #PowerliftingRules #WeightClasses BuiltToRise

POWERLIFTING RULES EXPLAINED: WHAT DO THE THREE LIGHTS MEAN? 🚦 Ever wondered how referees decide if your lift counts? In powerlifting, three referees judge every attempt, each giving either a white or red light. ⚪ WHITE LIGHT — The referee judges the lift successful. 🔴 RED LIGHT — The referee judges the lift unsuccessful. HOW MANY LIGHTS DO YOU NEED? ✅ 3 white lights = Good lift ✅ 2 white + 1 red = Good lift ❌ 2 red + 1 white = No lift ❌ 3 red lights = No lift The majority decision determines the outcome. You don’t need all three referees to agree, but you do need at least two white lights for a successful attempt. Remember: Referees judge independently according to the rules. Their job is to ensure fair competition for every lifter. 📌 Save this post and share it with a fellow lifter!

POWERLIFTING RULES EXPLAINED: DEADLIFT — NO LIFT ❌ Getting the bar off the floor doesn’t automatically mean you’ve completed a good deadlift. Here are some common reasons an attempt can be unsuccessful. ❌ FAILURE TO LOCK OUT — You must stand upright with your knees locked and shoulders back to complete the lift. ❌ HITCHING OR SUPPORTING THE BAR — You cannot rest the bar on your thighs or use them to help move the bar upward. ❌ IGNORING THE DOWN COMMAND — Wait for the referee’s signal before lowering the bar. ❌ DROPPING OR RELEASING THE BAR — Keep both hands on the bar and return it to the platform under control. In powerlifting, every detail matters. Complete the lift, follow the commands, and respect the rules. 📌 Save this post and share it with a fellow lifter!

POWERLIFTING RULES EXPLAINED: THE BENCH PRESS — NO LIFT ❌ What can make your bench press attempt unsuccessful? Let’s break down 4 common reasons for a no lift. ❌ SKIPPING COMMANDS — The bench press has three commands: Start, Press, and Rack. You must wait for each command before proceeding. Starting too early, pressing before the signal, or reracking before the command can result in a failed attempt. ❌ LOSING POSITION — Your head, shoulders, and buttocks must maintain the required contact with the bench throughout the lift. Your feet must also remain in contact with the platform in the position required by the rules. Breaking these requirements can result in a red light. ❌ ELBOWS NOT FULLY LOCKED — At the completion of the press, both arms must be fully extended, with the elbows locked, before you receive the Rack command. Failing to reach this position means the lift is incomplete. ❌ INCOMPLETE LIFT — If you cannot press the bar to the required finishing position, the attempt is unsuccessful. The bar must be pressed to full extension without downward movement during the pressing phase. In powerlifting, completing the lift isn’t enough if you don’t follow the rules. Listen to the commands, maintain your position, and finish every attempt properly. 📌 Save this post and share it with a fellow lifter!

POWERLIFTING RULES EXPLAINED: NO LIFT ❌ SQUAT What makes a squat attempt unsuccessful? Let’s break down some of the common reasons a lifter may receive a red light. ❌ INSUFFICIENT DEPTH — The hip crease must descend below the top of the knee. Failing to reach the required depth results in a no lift. ❌ IGNORING THE COMMANDS — You must wait for the Squat command before beginning and the Rack command before reracking the bar. ❌ INCOMPLETE LIFT — You must stand upright with your knees locked to complete the squat. If you cannot get back up, the attempt is unsuccessful. ❌ SPOTTER INTERFERENCE — Assistance from the spotters during the lift can result in a no lift. ❌ DROPPING OR DUMPING THE BAR — You must return the bar to the rack under control after receiving the rack command. DO NOT DUMP THE BAR ON THE SPOTTERS Even experienced lifters can miss an attempt. That’s part of the sport. What matters is understanding what happened, learning from it, and coming back stronger. Remember: Getting the weight on your back is one thing. Completing a good lift is another. 💪 📌 Save this post and share it with a fellow lifter!
