Said goodbye to my dear friend, mentor and Pastor today. I owe a lot to this man and I am eternally grateful for the 14 year friendship God blessed me with. He was the first person that ever suggested I go into ministry work, in fact, he told me he felt it was my calling. He baptized me, baptized @pariserinjensen, married @dcsrandall and I, and the baptized Paulie too. He was there for every major event in my life and walked alongside my family and I when my daddy passed. He my dad were good friends and for three years had breakfast together every morning. He encouraged my dad to go to Africa on a mission trip that changed his life. He walked me through Grad school, told me to keep going when I wanted to give up and taught me everything I know (and didn’t know) about ministry work. He treated @stricklyheather and I like his daughters and was always there to lend a listening ear and offer up some sound advice. Although he may have told anyone otherwise, when we asked for a Keurig in the office he went out the next day and bought us one without hesitation. We never could convince him on the margarita machine…but he generally let the two of us get away with murder. Towards the end of my time at Peace he and I decided it was high time we changed the church sign by the front drive. It had long since become hidden behind the tree branches and most people never looked at it, but it needed updating none the less. I told him that instead of saying church started at 9am that we should write 9ish on the sign. He laughed at me and said “you know we shouldn’t do that Elke” and kind of rolled his eyes (which is something he did many a time when I came to him with my crazy ideas). The next day when I drove up to church I happened to glance over at the new lettering on the sign, and there, bold as day, the sign read “1st Service - 9ish” 😂 Thank you for everything Pastor R. You changed my life and the life of many others. You saw something in me that even I myself would have never imagined I’d be capable of. Thank you for your guidance my friend! Until we meet again!
