Happy 10 years to A Seat at The Table!

I joined the team as Solange’s assistant 90 days (thanks to a four hour coffee with @onvacation 😂) before its release and the rest is literal history.

So many life long memories and relationships are tied to this album. traveling across the South to shoot the visuals, dreamy magazine and press shoots, touring at festivals + art institutions all around the world, winning Grammys, throwing and hosting lots of parties, dancing with Mrs Obama at their WH farewell party (peak!!), & countless more.

Forever grateful for this team who gave me my first experience as a producer (before I even knew all it entailed) and many lessons along the way.

Love you forever ASATT ❤️

Concert Reflections: National Symphony Orchestra, June 2026

Kellen Gray on his NSO subscription classics debut 🎼:

“With every program you aim to create something special and lasting; but this recent program with the National Symphony Orchestra holds profound personal importance for me.

Beyond the NSO’s place amongst the pantheon of the nation’s ensembles, it is an organization that truly invested in my growth and has become a musical family. Through years of conducting community programs, invaluable mentorship from Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, shared ideas with the staff, and personal friendships, this organization has embraced me. To be entrusted with a subscription program, share the stage with musicians I so admire, and again collaborate with the incredible Michelle Cann, is an honor that is difficult to describe.

Also, the significance of this specific program at this specific moment of the NSO and Kennedy Center’s history, is also not lost on me. I don’t believe it to be accidental or incidental that Dvořák’s Suite in A major - a set of miniatures based on European folk dances - is named The American. I truly believe that even in 1894, Dvořák was making a statement about what it means to be American: all are welcome, and all have claim.”

Update: event cancelled! Go see Charles at Theatre Squared 💯

This Sunday, Charles and Catherine are coming together as Controfferta, a summer duo playing to the bounty of summer. A little about them:

Charles Lumar II is a composer, musician, teacher and explorer currently on a project in Northwest Arkansas for “Eugene Onegin - A Bluegrass Musical.” He expresses himself in whatever medium seems up to the task but can primarily be found playing a double bass, an electric bass or a tuba.

Charles has had works premiered by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in addition to performing and recording with People Museum, Solange and Kristin Diable (to name a few). He has also toured the world playing shows at notable venues including the Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall, the Guggenheim, The Getty Museum, Glastonbury Festival and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

When not creating or performing music, Charles enjoys making visual art and matching his music to compelling images and videos. Charles was recently selected as a composer for Castle of Our Skins’ Black Composer Miniature Challenge 2.0 in addition to being accepted into residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Vashon Artist Residency, and The League of Stars Astro-Retreat and Art-Residency.

Charles is inspired by the stars, birds singing, and his mother, Elaine.

Catherine is a classically trained vocalist and composer with over ten years of piano experience and a background in musical theatre and stage performance. She has appeared in productions of Les Misérables and Into the Woods, and has composed and released multiple original piano works that have been performed live. Deeply inspired by the natural world and all living things, Catherine draws creativity from the beauty and complexity of the world around her—and is probably in a forest somewhere.

They’re writing music just for this dinner, come experience it 💫
