14 years ago, I had my very first @artspansf open studio at @rentactivspace in the Mission, San Francisco. My friend Sung who had a leather studio there, let me hang some of my drawings and small works. It was my very first step into this art world, and somehow, I got featured in @sfweekly as an open studio artist.

Thinking about it now, I feel nostalgic. Back then, I was juggling so much going to @officialccsf to become a nurse, working at a shoe store in the mall, selling Muni tickets at Power Station, and holding down three or four part-time jobs. It was survival mode, but I kept dreaming about this about having my solo studio, painting, and traveling to connect with artists in the world.

Looking at where I am now, I feel grateful. This was the life I dreamed of back then, and it reminds me that every day is someone else’s dream 🙏🏻💕🫶🏻🌷🌹

My heart aches for what’s happening in LA, Korea, and the world right now. It’s heavy, and I’m sending lots of love to everyone. I hope this is a reminder to enjoy life and live it fully when you can and support each other.

Take care of yourself and the people around you. I know many of us are carrying so much right now whether its personal challenges or the weight of everything happening in the world. If you’re suffering or facing difficulties, I hope you can find a moment of ease today, even if it’s small. Take a deep breath, go out and get sunshine, let yourself rest if you can, and remember that you’re not alone. Sending love and strength your way 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 🕯️ Love from Jun 🫂💌

To celebrate the Fine Art Museum of San Francisco’s currently mounted ‘Runway of Love’ Patrick Kelly retrospective, @thekellyinitiative , in partnership with @deyoungmuseum, asked a range of creatives to peek through our namesake’s love-tinted lenses of style and design. In turn, they sketched, painted, digitized, and colored an array of original and reinterpreted looks. The illustrations pay homage to the designer’s rainbow-hued exuberance, African American vernacular chic, and hallmark trim embellishments. They speak both to Kelly’s wide-reaching influence and the ever-evolving modes of fashion illustration; 60 years old to barely 6, the artists utilized all range of media—from gouache, markers, and crayons to iPad Pros and advanced 3D modeling. The resultant gallery is as celebratory of American fashion’s brightly inclusive future as it is of Kelly’s inspiringly inclusive legacy. This weekend marks our 2nd anniversary! We will be celebrating in little and endearing ways.

On Saturday, we will be offering mini bouquets and little jades for $5, while supplies last!
