A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for our performance of Haydn’s The Creation.

It was wonderful to share this beautiful and uplifting work with you, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came along to support us.

Our heartfelt thanks go to our wonderful soloists, all our singers and musicians for bringing this magnificent work to life. We’d also like to thank Fr Bernhard Schünemann for his support, our concert sponsor @thepeddergroup and everyone who worked behind the scenes to bring it all together.

So much goes into making a concert like this happen, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part, whether on stage or behind the scenes.

And, of course, thank you to our audience for joining us and supporting South Dulwich Chorus. We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did!

Thank you to Carry Hornby @artsouthlondon for the photo.

Immensely delighted to present a set of four poetry including the legendary poet Li Bai, titled “Leaving White Emperor City at Dawn” (早發白帝城) to accompany the epic hand painted LianPu - face painting art exhibition currently showcasing at @canvasandcreamse23

Completed with ink on paper, deeply & inspired by my ESEA heritage and the world of operatic facial art. While the Lian-Pu art (operatic facial painting) tells a story of the powerful warlords, the tragic King & his ultimate love to the wild & untamed spirit of golden monkey, the poems transforming the emotional energy into beautiful literary rhythms.

This collection is currently exhibited at @canvasandcreamse23 in celebration of ESEA heritage month.

You are warmly invited to visit the exhibition from now or join me at the private viewing on 17th of September 6-8 pm. I would love to know which one you most resonate with!

Some background reading can be accessed via bio Substack publication link. Accompanying talks, and workshops can also be booked via bio or directly at Canvas & Cream.

Gallery opens daily
11am to 4 pm.

Just two weeks now until the fantastic Aluca Trio arrive from Spain for their first ever UK tour.

They'll be teaching and performing beautiful polyphonic folk songs from across the Northwest Mediterranean. I can honestly say that they are amongst the most skilled workshop leaders I have ever had the privilege to learn with, and they are absolutely delightful in concert too.

Catch them in the South in July, or in the North and Scotland in October.

🍂 Tonight at Dulwich Festival 🍂

We’re thrilled to welcome cellist @pablotejedorgutierrez to St Stephen’s Dulwich this evening for what promises to be one of the most atmospheric and unforgettable concerts of this year’s Dulwich Festival.

An Anatomy of Melancholy: The Fall of the Leaf

📍 St Stephen’s Dulwich, College Road, SE21 7HW
🕖 Tonight, 7pm–9pm

The programme brings together an anachronistic dialogue between Johann Sebastian Bach, Monique Gabus and Imogen Holst around the cello, conceived as a meeting place between eras and people with very different feelings. The common thread that links the different pieces is the desire to show how the same instrument can be used to express a wide spectrum of feelings and emotions around the autumnal melancholy of the cello. Finally, Dall’Abaco and Duport will provide a stylistic counterpoint.

Imogen Holst (1907–1984)
The Fall of the Leaf
Poco adagio

Monique Gabus (1924–2011)
Déploration pour une amie défunte (Cello)

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750)
Suite No. 2 for Solo Cello in D minor, BWV 1008
Prelude
Allemande
Courante
Sarabande
Menuets I & II
Gigue

Jean-Louis Duport (1749–1819)
Exercise No. 13

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750)
Prelude from Suite No. 4 for Solo Cello, BWV 1010

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750)
Prelude, Allemande & Gigue from Suite No. 3 for Solo Cello, BWV 1009

Joseph-Marie-Clément Dall’Abaco (1710–1805)
Capriccio No. 8

A rare chance to hear this remarkable programme in the beautiful setting of St Stephen’s 🌿✨
