Strength to strength... Sort of rounding out our entry into the sixth year of business is a little reflection again on how we got here. I have been so focused on where we are going and pushing through the next obstacle that often I forget how far we have come! The first time we took the Chop Shop on the road at @thestudiowidnes I was so nervous and didn't really know if i was ready to do it for real. It went so well that we had to turn people away! So we started looking for a real shop! After a chance shopping trip to @redbrickmarket_liverpool we got chatting with some people and it turned out they would have quite liked a barber in there... So I signed up 2 days later! Our first real physical shop opened Halloween morning 2018. We had little more than the big orange chair, a table my brother in law built for me and a banner that said Ray Gunn's Chop Shop that I had made on my kitchen table for the roadshow events. I remember those days so well, trying to convince passers by to take a chance on a new barber in the city, there were busy days and there were days where I didn't cut a single hair. Second incarnation came as we moved across the market, this was the first time I knew we were onto something good and our crew of regulars was growing and their friends started appearing too. The global pandemic of 2020 put a nail in our coffin for a little while, but we booted that back off again once lockdowns were lifted and we got to be appointment only. The third and current home of the Chop Shop is our proudest achievement. You all have made it into what it is, it is a secret doorway with a sign saying "fuck off" that you all still open! You all seem to understand and support this crazy dream of mine despite it never making sense! I cut hair, that's it, I love to do it and I will be doing it forever but I never in a million years would have imagined this. You have squashed my doubts and worries time and time again, you have saved me when I have been low and shared in our victories. I am here for you all and will be for a very long time! Thank you all for the love and trust. Love Ray F. Gunn

Time To Talk... It has been a short while since we last did any kind of social media stuff and it has been pleasant enough to focus energy just on chopping hair, being a barber and being a person! However, the world needs the Chop Shop back in your feeds! There's a lot going on in the world and I am still reeling from the last 12 months in my own world, so let's see if we can make a change and bring some happy and peaceful stuff back to the socials? What's been going on? Well, loads! We accidentally missed the shop's 5th Birthday back in October so we got some plans in the pocket for a late celebration. You all have dancing shoes and I will sort your hair out so let's go hang out somewhere and eat cake right? We had a little chat with our old mates @humansofliverpool and they posted a quick snippet of what was a lovely conversation. It's brought me into a lot of new people's lives and I am very thankful to welcome you all into my world. There are, as always, some big plans on the horizon for the Chop Shop and I am very excited about the future. Again, I can't possibly find words to thank you all for the ongoing love and support over the years, especially the last one. So, drop me a message, get booked in and come get your hair sorted because there's gonna be some fun stuff this summer! Love, always Ray F. Gunn P.S. the lovely @stuben63 took this picture last summer just before I went to Canada and it's bloody lovely!

Canada Announcement!!! That is right folks we are headed back to Canada!!! It has been a year already since we were last on Canadian soil and we have missed it so much that we decorated a whole shop to make it feel a little closer to home! We are headed back there mid September and will not be back till mid October! So that means the Chop Shop will be closing our doors for just shy of a month! If you want to get booked in do so before the 15th September or from the 15th October! Not much else to say, I can't cut your hair if I am not there, so grow it out for a month and let me hack at it when I get back! Love Ray F. Gunn P.S. this lovely picture taken by @stuben63 - more on those later!

🍁French vibes. English atmosphere. Romanian heart. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Has it been 3 months or more since my last post ? Yes, it has. I didn’t feel like posting here for a while and I can see other small creators dealing with burnout too. Plus, the constant “you must upload reels “ to grow, algorithm changes and all that jazz. Nothing it’s “Insta” anymore except the stories. Petition to rename Instagram to #unposted photography instead ? Anyone ? ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Just like autumn, it’s ok to slow down when you need to. For me, it’s #SecondhandSeptember every single month. I love wearing secondhand and vintage items. Blazers, belts and accessories were my go to items when I started thrifting. I am always curious why people are reluctant in giving secondhand fashion a go. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ These lovely photographs have been taken by Stuart @stuben63 . Just realised I hadn't actually posted this picture taken by the amazingly talented photographer @stuben63 I am often surprised when I see myself smiling in photographs and this is one of those occasions! Things have been difficult recently and it is only through the love and support of my customers, friends and family that I find the drive to keep on fighting through! Honestly will never find words to thank you all for the continued love and I am very excited to share some big news over the next few months and continuing to build this business and brand into something truly spectacular! Keep those eyes peeled and good vibes coming! Love to you all and come hang out with me in the shop!

"Spirit Weavers Healers Grievers Space Holders ▽ Honor your own boundaries Your have permission to go inward To be selfish and take space Without explanation Without apology ▽ Take time to replenish the reservoirs of your own soul. You do not owe anyone anything. It is your right to create time and space to process your own emotions. To feel and to grieve in your own way. ▽ Our culture has taught women to over give. To overstep our own boundaries and make exceptions so others feel comfortable. We’re taught to put on a smile and be nice, even when inside we’re feeling withdrawn and need to be alone. ▽ Sometimes it’s ok not to smile back. It’s ok to speak your truth without making it tidy. It’s ok to say “Right now I need space, thank you for honouring that” Now is the time to call upon the wise woman inside of you. Draw a line in the sand. Protect your energy. ▽ You cannot drink from an empty well. You will always carry the love and wisdom and the gifts you’re here to bring to the world. And right now, it’s ok to be quiet and rest. Honouring your time and space as you withdraw your energy as needed. The world keeps living, but you will not be forgotten. Take the time you need." ♡♡♡ 2 years today Dad ♡♡♡ .
