Casa Macahuite, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico by Studiofont @studio.font 🔗 https://amazingarchitecture.com/houses/casa-macahuite-puerto-escondido-oaxaca-mexico-by-studiofont Photography: Alberstudio @alberstudio Studiofont: Casa Macahuite is conceived as a composition of five planes (four vertical walls and a floating pergola) arranged in direct relationship with the landscape: sea and mountains. Their configuration generates intermediate spaces that provide shade, cross-ventilation, and continuous visual connection with the surroundings, making climate and site the primary organizers of the project... #mexico #oaxaca #puertoescondido #architecture #amazingarchitecture

Casa Diez Pies is conceived as a puzzle resolved with a single piece: a module repeated four times and offset by 50 cm in plan and section, allowing the whole to adapt to the existing topography and vegetation. The project sits on a rocky slope of nearly 40 degrees, 50 meters above Rinconcito Beach in Mazunte, next to Punta Cometa. Located near Puerto Escondido, Casa Macahuite by @studio.font is set back from the sand within a natural clearing, preserving the dune while maintaining views towards the Pacific and surrounding mountains. The 300m² house is organised as an H-shaped composition of two concrete volumes linked by a central pergola, which spans 14m without intermediate supports and forms the main social space. Four vertical walls and a floating horizontal plane create shaded transitional areas, cross ventilation and continuous connections between interior and landscape. Exposed concrete, steel and parota timber respond to the site’s heat, humidity, hurricanes and seismic conditions, while the pool divides public and private areas. The off-grid house generates electricity through photovoltaic panels, heats water with solar energy and draws water from its own well. A biological treatment system recycles wastewater for irrigation, supporting the native planting that surrounds and enters the building. See more via the link in our bio. Most houses on a slope like this get built by flattening the slope first. Casa Diez Pies sits on a rocky incline of nearly 40 degrees, fifty metres above Rinconcito Beach in Mazunte. Rather than cutting a platform into the hill, Studiofont designed one module and repeated it four times, offsetting each one 50 centimetres in plan and 50 centimetres in section. So the house steps down the slope instead of sitting on top of it. The same shape, four times, each one shifted slightly, and the whole thing bends around the terrain and the trees that were already there. It's a simple idea and a hard one to execute. Repetition usually reads as cheap. Here it's the opposite — the discipline of using one piece is what lets the building adapt to ground that would otherwise dictate the design. Set on a rocky slope above a beach in Oaxaca, Casa Diez Pies is a coastal home by Studio Font that responds closely to the terrain, vegetation and open views of Punta Cometa. The house is organised from a single repeated module, offset in plan and section to step with the site. Ten structural concrete supports lift the slabs from the ground, reducing earthworks and allowing the building to sit among existing rocks and planting. These “feet” also contain bathrooms, storage, services and other compact functions, turning structure into usable space. Above them, elevated slabs, shaded terraces, pergolas and an ocean-facing pool form a sequence of outdoor rooms that remain open to breeze, tree canopies and long Pacific views. Concrete is tinted to relate to the colour of the site, while timber is used for roofs, pergolas, shutters and built-in furniture. See more via the link in our bio.
