MEADOW CERAMIC FLASK — AN OBJECT OF MANY USES.

The series of ten unique ceramic flasks is developed from individual motifs drawn from AVILLAFRANCISKA’s jacquard-woven MORNING MEADOW, extending the House’s textile universe and its work with archival motifs, ornament and craftsmanship into ceramic form.

Individually shaped and finished by hand, each flask carries subtle variations in form and surface, reflecting the craftsmanship behind its making.

A vase for flowers, a carafe for water, or simply an object in its own right.

Each flask leaves room for individual interpretation, finding its place in different settings and everyday rituals.

MEADOW CERAMIC FLASK — THE FORM & ORNAMENT.

Designed by Nikolaj Mentze of Studio 0405, the form draws from the long, cross-cultural history of rectangular ceramic bottles and carafes, referencing the historic pilgrim flask, once used to carry oil, perfume and holy water.

Taking its starting point in AVILLAFRANCISKA’s jacquard-woven MORNING MEADOW, Nikolaj has selected individual motifs from the larger composition — what he describes as “small finds in the big picture.”

Birds, horses, flowers and botanical details are reinterpreted through his drawings and transferred onto the ceramic surface. Each motif is freehand engraved by Nikolaj, creating ten individual compositions, each carrying its own fragment of the original textile.

A glimpse into the creation process of the MEADOW CERAMIC FLASK @avillafranciska
Made in a limited collection of 10.

Inspired by AVILLAFRANCISKA’s “MORNING MEADOW”jacquard, each ceramic flask is individually hand-built from a light sculptural stoneware.

The pieces are both designed and carefully freehand engraved by Nikolaj Mentze of @studio0405

Once the selected motif from the MORNING MEADOW textile is engraved, it then inlayed with a polar white glaze. Each ceramic flask is later finished by submersion, in a soft satin matte overlay.

Subtle variations created through the multiple firing process give each ceramic flask its character.

Perhaps my favourite, is where ever-so-slight crystallisation can be witnessed dancing under sunlight, where motif & overlay have been fused as one.

TEN UNIQUE CERAMIC EDITIONS

Only ten flasks have been made, and no two are alike. Each is slab-built by hand and engraved freehand with a motif drawn from the jacquard, so that every bloom bears the trace of the hand that cut it.

MEADOW CERAMIC FLASK carries the wildflowers of MORNING MEADOW into a form made to be held, used, and kept.

The AVILLAFRANCISKA Ceramic Flask grew out of a wish to follow the motifs of MORNING MEADOW beyond the loom, exploring how early 19th-century Nordic archival references might take on another material life in ceramic.

Created with ceramist Franca Christophersen and designer Nikolaj Mentze, the collaboration draws on the historic form of the pilgrim flask and explores what happens when textile, clay, hand and glaze meet.

This exploration has taken form in a limited series of ten ceramic flasks, each with its own subtle character.

A collaboration made with people we deeply admire.

We have loved working with ceramicist Franca Christophersen and Nikolaj Mentze of Studio 0405, two dear friends whose sensitivity, craft and individual ways of working are a great inspiration to us.

Together, AVILLAFRANCISKA, Franca and Nikolaj have carried elements of MORNING MEADOW from jacquard-woven textile into ceramic, shaped through hand, sensibility and precision.

MEADOW CERAMIC FLASK brings together AVILLAFRANCISKA, ceramicist Franca Christophersen and designer Nikolaj Mentze of Studio 0405.

AVILLAFRANCISKA’s jacquard-woven MORNING MEADOW finds a new expression in ceramic. Drawing on the historic pilgrim flask, each piece is individually slab-built in light stoneware.

Selected motifs from MORNING MEADOW, rooted in early 19th-century Nordic archival material, are freehand-engraved onto the surface.

A polar white glaze, softened by a satin-matte overlay, brings subtle tonal variation.

Each flask is accompanied by a hand-sewn sleeve in AVILLAFRANCISKA’s signature jacquard-woven MORNING MEADOW textile.
