When a train transfer becomes an architecture lovers favorite place to spend time🥰⠀ ⠀ I couldn't stop looking up at the glass and steel lines of The Squaire at Frankfurt Airport Fernbahnhof.⠀👀😎 ⠀ Designed by the renowned office JSK Architekten, this architectural giant stretches an incredible 660 meters long and 65 meters wide!⠀ ⠀ 🤓making it the largest office building in Germany.⠀ ⠀ Right in the center sits "Immaterielles" (Immaterial), an imposing 5-meter-tall glossy white sculpture by German artist Andreas Schmitten. It’s his very first permanent installation in a public space, adding a brilliant touch of mystery and calm to the rush of the terminal.⠀ ⠀ Needless to say, we enjoyed and captured its presence. ⠀ ⠀ For those stopping over there and are in for healty food, I was surprised by the Hafer kater concept. It’s all about firsts. Andreas Schmitten’s multidisciplinary practice spans drawing, sculpture and installation, incorporating strategies of display and attraction drawn from religion, theatre and the world of commodities. He addresses questions concerning human beings, their history, the seemingly mundane, functional objects they create and the cultural structures that result from their actions. For Glasstress, this practice extends into a new material for the first time. 🤍 Mit seiner Skulptur "Immaterielles" spielt der Künstler Andreas Schmitten bewusst mit unseren Erwartungen. Was auf den ersten Blick wie feine Keramik wirkt, ist tatsächlich eine sorgfältig bearbeitete Bronze mit weiß lackierter Oberfläche. Schmitten verbindet vertraute Formen aus der Alltagswelt mit Anklängen an den menschlichen Körper. So entstehen Skulpturen, die sich einer eindeutigen Zuordnung entziehen und Fragen nach Material, Funktion und Wahrnehmung aufwerfen. Jedes Detail der Oberfläche ist präzise mit dem Ziel ausgearbeitet, das Material selbst in den Hintergrund treten zu lassen. Denn nicht das Woraus, sondern die Frage "Was sehen wir eigentlich?" steht im Mittelpunkt. Was hast du auf den ersten Blick gesehen? Die Performances sind vorbei, die Ausstellung bleibt noch. GHOST 5 – Festival of Butoh, Sound and Vision verbindet bildende Kunst, Tanz und Klang zu einer gemeinsamen Erfahrungslandschaft. Die gezeigten Installationen von Andreas Schmitten, Alisa Berger und Claude Hofer bildeten die Grundlage für die Performance-Parcours und können nun nach dem Festival noch bis zum 12. Juni eine ortsspezifischen Live-Performance in der installativen Arbeit von Andreas Schmitten aufgeführt. Ergänzt wurde ihr Beitrag vom Gesang Jamal Dilmens. YUKO KASEKI • DOLLY DOLLY • FOGROOM In der begehbaren Rauminstallation von Andreas Schmitten zeigten die Regisseurin, Choreografin, Butoh-Tänzerin, Performerin, Improvisatorin und Lehrerin Yuko Kaseki gemeinsam mit David Yates, der als "writer/artist" Dolly Dolly bekannt ist und Jörg Follert, der zwischen Musik und Bild arbeitet, ihre ortsspezifische Live-Performance. Sie war Teil des Performance Parcours I, der im Rahmen des GHOST 5 – FESTIVAL OF BUTOH, SOUND AND VISION bei uns vor Ort entwickelt und am 18. Juni zur Aufführung gebracht wurde.  Das GHOST 5 Festival wird von Wolfgang Schäfer kuratiert und durch das Kulturamt der Stadt Düsseldorf, die Kunst- und Kulturstiftung der Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf und die Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Rheinland gefördert.
