Cover Book Design📙 - What Hunger Recovered

This is the last of the designs I created for the Little, Brown brief. This cover takes a much more dynamic approach to cover design with drawn and aged graphics. ✍️

The cover has Ronnie hunched over eating the steak mignon from the book with a yellow blood trail. 🩸

The design for this cover was to be as bold and loud as possible, as to grab the most attention on a book shelf.

The two covers together look great. It’s lovely stuff 👏

Screen Printed Hard Cover(s)📚- What Hunger, Recovered

Here is the completed article, the hard cover book has been recovered with one of the original screen prints I did for this project. 🎨

The final book has many differences from the first version of the book, the darker colours and deeper blue of the original cover contrasts a lot with the more fluorescent and vibrant colours of the screen printed version. 💙🩵

I like both of them but I think the quality of the print job and colours I prefer over the crisp and perfect digital print.

The brief to redesign this cover was given to me by @littlebrownbookgroup_uk @littlebrownbookgroup_uk and the book was written by @dangitcat . 🥩

I’m quite pleased with this cover, I’ve also got one more cover to show- the soft cover design! Coming very soon… 🧡

What Hunger Hard Back Cover - Screen Print Showcase📘

This project’s brief was given to me by Little, Brown Book Group as they tasked my uni class to redesign Cat Dang’s What Hunger book. Here is one of my responses 👏

Following the last post, here are the 9 completed prints I have made using my original design, inspired by Luke Bird’s covers on Uketsu’s books. 📚

One of these prints has been cut out to size and used as hard cover design (you can see this in the coming days!) 🎉

Very pleased with these prints, other than that silly “?” mark, that was a silly mistake. Other than that I’m quite pleased with the texture and interest the printed aspects to my work have brought to my digital illustration. ✨

What Hunger Recovered 📕- Print Project Teaser

The brief of this project was given to our uni class by UK book publishers the Little, Brown Book Group. This brief had us redesign the cover of Cat Dang’s 2025 femgore book “What Hunger.”

I have made a hard cover and soft cover design. 🌈

This teaser is focusing on the Hard Cover design that I drew digitally and printed with four punchy colours using screen printing 🔵🔴⚫️🟡

The final prints will be shown tomorrow. I will also be posting photographs of the soft and hard cover books very soon. Not a long wait! 👍

I will address the silly mistake:
I added “?” to the title on this cover, it was a mistake that I have fixed on the digital file, but as I had made the screens before I realised I couldn’t change it. 🐘

It’s annoying but it’s happened now- we move on! ❤️‍🩹

It’s been a really positive experience getting a brief from industry. As well as good experience designing for a target audiences. 🎉

Normally I'd wait until a book is out before I post about it, but because it got a cover reveal yesterday why not - I illustrated The Film Lover's Guide to London, a book of filming locations by Thomas Duke AKA Stepping Through Film, coming out April 16th and published by @littlebrownbookgroup_uk

I did the cover and some interior illos which amount to some spots and maps throughout. I'll post some of those bits later after it comes out.

Thanks as always to @benpriordesign for having me on board and the AD - good fun!

I recently created the cover illustration for @rmlferrier new book, 'The Salt Bind.' Set in 1700s Cornwall, this gothic story brings together sea monsters and ancient magic. The vivid imagery and the wild Cornish setting gave me so much inspiration for the cover art.

The book is out today, so if you enjoy fantasy folklore, be sure to check it out!

Thank you to Ella and the team at Little Brown for always being great to work with! @studio_of_ideas
