“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” Georgia O’Keeffe Yesterday’s Meet and Greet @casildart_contemporary Contemporary was a HUGE success. And as you can see, most of the artists made it! It’s my third year exhibiting at this black female owned gallery owned by the entrepreneurial, Sukai Ecclestone. I particularly love this inclusive exhibition which includes works from emerging and mid-career artists of diverse backgrounds and nationalities. Meet and Greet events are such effective ways to engage with artists, providing opportunities to discuss their techniques, inspirations, and the stories behind their work. All the time, visitors, including prospective buyers listen in. The gallery was packed! Even @susanangoy came. She awarded me her WIA prize four years ago!! Here she is in Slide 2.with last year’s exceptional winner @marci.sculpturalview . Good to see red dots appear, too! 🔴 There’s something definitively nurturing about being back and sharing experiences. No matter where we are on the art journey, interactions like this will always provide nuggets of wisdom. I enjoyed talking to artists who I hadn’t met before in person or I didn’t know of before. On a personal note, it helped me talk more fluently about my practice and particularly the ‘ Black Madonna and Child’ in the exhibition. Normally, I’m adept at flipping the conversation to allow others to talk about their work. Gradually, I’m learning to own my space in public. As an aside, last month, I commissioned a ceramic from the lovely @merissahylton which she brought to the gallery. She delivered it carefully wrapped for safe transport by rail home. I love the Vulcan black clay with which she coil builds, burnishes and carves the pot, then weaves in jute. Merissa says this series is a tribute to her grandparents and the Windrush generation! Love that!! See final slide!! I am thrilled!!! Thank you!!❤️ EmpowerHer26 continues until May 2nd. Don’t miss it!! 📍 32 Connaught Street, London W2 2AF 🖼️ Tuesday – Saturday 🕰️ 11am – 6pm #happydays #meetheartists #thirdtimelucky #conversationsmatter #yesidelinneyartist
