We’re completely taken by this extraordinary villa in Dubai by @studio_vdga -a 4,000 sqm residence recently featured in AD Middle East, and one we simply can’t stop thinking about.

From the striking black-and-white checkered marble floors to the sculptural, arcade-inspired console table that mirrors the home’s architectural language, every detail feels intentional and deeply refined. The kitchen becomes a geometric centerpiece, anchored by a monolithic Arabescato Orobico marble island — bold, graphic, and undeniably iconic.

The bathrooms unfold beneath elegant arches, where Calacatta Gold marble wraps walls, stairs, and surfaces in a soft, luminous flow, contrasted beautifully by Nero Marquina arches that bring depth through a timeless black-and-white dialogue.

A home that doesn’t just impress — it lingers.
A masterclass in scale, materiality, and architectural restraint.
Wow, wow, wow.

In the heart of Dubai’s evolving residential landscape, @Studio_VDGA ’s House of Courtyards reimagines contemporary villa living through a climate responsive and deeply contextual approach. Designed as a sequence of inward looking spaces, the home draws from traditional desert architecture where courtyards become the primary mediators of light, shade, and thermal comfort. High perimeter walls, shaded voids, and carefully positioned openings create a layered spatial experience that protects the interiors from harsh heat while allowing natural light to filter gently through the home. A restrained material palette inspired by earthy plasters and warm metal screens grounds the architecture in its surroundings, lending the residence a quiet strength and timeless presence.

Inside, the house unfolds as a fluid dialogue between indoor and outdoor living, with each courtyard offering a distinct atmosphere and sense of pause. Living areas, private rooms, and circulation spaces open onto these green and shaded pockets, fostering visual continuity and natural ventilation throughout the home. Thoughtful planning ensures privacy without isolation, allowing the residence to feel expansive yet intimate at the same time.

Rooted in cultural understanding and climatic sensitivity, the House of Courtyards stands as a refined interpretation of modern living in Dubai, where architecture responds not through excess, but through balance, restraint, and a deep respect for place.

The Street in Pune by Studio VDGA is a community hub reimagining the traditional Indian street as a shared space for connection, celebration, and everyday life. Set within a plotted residential layout of modest 1500 m² plots, the design replaces a typical clubhouse with a meandering “living street” that threads together gatherings, eating, recreation, and pause points, encouraging interaction and chance encounters. Built with local brick, stone, and raw concrete, and captured beautifully by Edmund Sumner, the project blurs boundaries between indoor and outdoor life while grounding itself in local craft, materiality, and climate-aware design.

//DE November - December 2025 Edition //In this year’s finale edition of DE INDIA, we yet again celebrate the art of designing homes. Among all built forms, beautiful homes hold a special place. They are deeply personal, shaped not only by design choices but by emotions, memories, and everyday rituals that turn space into sanctuary.
.
.
Extending this dialogue on art and space, we also turn our gaze toward Art d’Égypte, @artdegypte where ten artists presented monumental sculptural works set against the timeless backdrop of the Pyramids of Giza.
Our cover story features a serene, cocoon-like floating home by Wallmakers ( @ar.vinudaniel ) in Karjat, Gujarat—an architectural expression of material innovation, restraint, and calm. Continuing the dialogue on sensory experience, we explore Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2026. ( @pantone ) A shade that signals renewal, purity, and a quiet fresh start.
Of course a special column section by DE editor in chief @anirudhdatta_ about Design and Emotions and a special tribute to the icon late Frank Gehry.
