Escape from L.A. (1996) sees Kurt Russell return as Snake Plissken, this time thrown into a dystopian Los Angeles cut off from the rest of America. Bigger, stranger and more over-the-top than Escape from New York, it takes Snake through a wild apocalyptic version of L.A. 🌴
.
I’ll start by saying that compared to the first movie, this isn’t considered a great sequel or, to some, even a good movie. I wasn’t a big fan when I first saw it either, and that opinion stuck through several rewatches over the years. Revisiting it recently, though, I found a lot more to enjoy. The CGI hasn’t aged well, but I can forgive that as a product of its time. Kurt Russell is still brilliant as Snake, and I love the characters, costumes and overall look and aesthetic of L.A. My biggest issue is how closely the plot follows Escape from New York, which is still the superior film. But if you can put those issues aside and enjoy it for what it is, there’s a lot of fun here. Definitely worth revisiting if you wrote it off years ago!
.
What other John Carpenter movies do you love? His films with Kurt Russell are the gold standard for me, but what other underrated Carpenter movies deserve more attention? And if you’ve read this far, thank you for checking out my design! I really appreciate it. Feel free to like, comment and share it out, and hopefully I’ll get around to creating more Carpenter designs in the future! 👀

Time to get your ass back to Mars. Total Recall turns 36 years old tomorrow. Released across the United States on the 1st of June 1990.

Patrick Swayze was originally signed to play Quaid when the movie began preproduction in Australia with Bruce Beresford as the director. However, early in preproduction the company went bankrupt. After @schwarzenegger heard about this, he persuaded Carolco to buy the script and pushed to hire director Paul Verhoeven after seeing Robocop in 1987.

Untill tomorrow, "open your mind" and we will "See you at the party"

HIGHLANDER (1986) 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray Limited Edition STEELBOOK from STUDIO CANAL UK

Inspired today to post this and watch later tonight by this mornings post from @shera_fox_ - that looked stunning ! Wow!!

Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery star in 1986 cult classic HIGHLANDER. He fought his first battle on the Scottish Highlands in 1536. He will fight his greatest battle on the streets of New York city in 1986. His name is Connor MacLeod. He is immortal. After surviving a wound that should have taken him out him during a clan battle in the Scottish Highlands in 1536, Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) is banished from his village.

Years later, he is met by Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery), a swordsman who teaches MacLeod the truth about himself, he is immortal; one of a race of many who can only Passover when the head is cut from the body. He must fight his way through the centuries until the time of The Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the ages will come together to fight until only one remains. In New York City the final fight is about to begin, and in the end, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!

REVIEW: COLD STORAGE (2026)

Cold Storage isn’t going to go down as one of the best films of the year so far, but man, it was a fun watch. Not only was the script fun and unserious at times with hilarious moments, but the cast is filled with likable characters you want to root for, and some you definitely want to root against. Despite not being giving much to do, Liam Neeson’s dry comedic delivery stole any scene he was a part of, but every performance was solid at minimum.
However, the CGI and special effects seemed inconsistent at times, with some scenes appearing plucked straight from a SIMS game. Now, when the effects get gross with the zombie antics, it wins you over again. I think these effects may be inconsistent due to the fact that the amazing ending likely drew in most of the budget, but a win is a win in my books.
Unfortunately, despite the overall fun I had watching it, I think this film will be completely forgotten in the coming months and will likely be difficult to find on any streaming platforms this time next year. All I’m saying is that if a physical copy of this ends up in my collection, I know nothing.
