My short film Tell Me When You Get Home will have its East Coast Premiere at BlackStar Film Festival! This year’s fest is August 6-9 in Philadelphia 🥳🖤🌀❇️🧨

I started volunteering at BlackStar as a wee lass in 2015, and was blessed to screen films in the 2017 and 2020 programs. I’m excited to screen Tell Me When You Get Home in the community that nurtured my aesthetic sensibility, political understanding, and sense of self for the past 10 years.

📆 If you’re in or near Philly August 6-9 please come check us out!!! There’s also a virtual option for those who can’t attend in person.

A wild and wonderful few days at SXSW for the world premiere of our short film, Tell Me When You Get Home 🌀🐚🪷

🎬 Tell Me follows 15 y/o Honest Cardamom as she encounters the spirit of her late mother at a family party. It’s a short piece about connection, memory, love and self-expression. So blessed, honored, and grateful to be presenting this work.

📆 Next up: we don’t know yet! After almost three years in production, we’re at the end of one journey and the beginning of another. We hope to be screening at a film festival near u soon.

“Tell Me When You Get Home” is going to SxSW! 🥲

I’ve learned a lot from this film about my own journey with grief. I still find and connect with pieces of my mother everywhere I go: in the intonation and cadence of my aunt’s voice on the phone, in a cafe in Japan where I stumble across her favorite record; in photographs of her mother and aunts where I recognize my style is just theirs; in the supernatural experiences I’ve had since her transition.

For this reason I instantly resonated with @studiotshay ‘s vision and story for Honest Cardamom. The experience of sensing someone there you can no longer see and all of the mixed emotions that come with it can be hard to navigate, especially for young adults (or your own inner child). It is a topic that requires a sensitivity and care that this team has brilliantly navigated, all with a sense of humor and understanding that breathes throughout this film.

So grateful to have been on this journey with such a team that has truly felt like family.
