After *The Mother Issue*, i-D turns the page to *The Father Issue*, with David Byrne starring on a limited-edition cover photographed by Coco Capitán and styled by Julie Ragolia.

In conversation with Alex Frank, the Talking Heads frontman reflects on music, art, nostalgia and his new book, *Sleeping Beauties*. On the danger of creative comfort, Byrne puts it simply: “If you don’t deviate, if you don’t try new things, you’ll end up an oldies act in Vegas.” It’s a fitting thought from an artist who has spent more than four decades refusing to stay in one lane, from the punk spirit of Talking Heads to his ever-expanding creative pursuits. Because for Byrne, making sense has never meant playing it safe.
