While in San Francisco, dear friend and artist Yoram Wolberger and I called dear friend and artist: Felipe Dulzaides. Dulzaides picked up the phone and, after 25 years without seeing each other, the three of us begun to talk as if time did not exist. That's the magic of real friendship. We all graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute, MFA in New Genre Department. Wolberger lives in San Francisco and Dulzaides is right now in Havana, Cuba, where he was born. Dulzaides has received several prestigious honors, including the Rome Prize (2010), the Cintas Fellowship, and grants from Art Matters and the Graham Foundation. As a prominent Cuban-born American contemporary artist, he is known for multidisciplinary work that bridges the gap between art and life. He oscillates between Havana and San Francisco. His art is process-oriented and research-based, often exploring the poetic and metaphoric qualities of space. His projects frequently address cultural displacement, circularity, chance, and the relationship between architecture and public spaces. So proud to see great artists friends, and so lucky to be able to engage in such needed conversations. We artist are the antidote to any challenge in life.
