@loods6 • KNSM-laan 143, Amsterdam _____________________________________________ Meet the NOTFFFF team! Alfred Marseille, Robin Noorda, and Sarai van de Boel, who work as artists and filmmakers at Loods6, spearheaded the first edition of this festival. Maureen Kamphuis has joined the team as producer. NOTFFFF will take place in the Bagagehal at Loods6, with the Loods6 organization serving as a collaborative partner for the festival. I observed that art and, by extension, film is under pressure, struggling to maintain its capacity to be truly unconventional and innovative. Throughout the process, I consistently asked: “Are we on the right track?”. I explored which terms best define “unconventional” categories and considered how an accompanying exhibition could form a cohesive whole without forcing artworks into rigid boxes - thereby remaining unconventional from the inside out.

🎟️ Info & tickets: filmbythesea.nl

Off Track uses art and philosophy to inspire new perspectives on daily life and organizations. The book is a plea to approach the complexity of the current world with new metaphors. The author calls this ‘thinking around’. She sees that in ‘square worlds’ there is a need for tools to approach entrenched patterns and systems differently and to get thought processes moving. Sarai van de Boel @studiosarai challenges the reader to look at one’s own systems from the inside with a philosophical approach. 📷 Sarai van de Boel — Off Track Art and philosophy as triggers for system change 📚 Now available at the Huis Marseille bookshop Images Jimmie Durham, Still Life with Spirit and Xitle #jimmiedurham Nam June Paik, Zen for TV 1963 #namjunepaik Jordan Wolfson, Coloured Sculpture @jordanmatthewwolfson © Gert Jan van Rooij / Collection Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Marjan van Aubel, Dutch Biotope @marjanvanaubel Kazumasa Nagai, Ueno Zoo #kazumasanagai Hella Jongerius, Breathing Colour @hellajongerius Lisanne Hoogerwerf, Staging Stars @lisannehoogerwerf

“Art should ask us questions There’s often depth of course I haven’t met this artist yet But really love this horse!” (Saw a great show at Loods 6, Wonky. It’s an art community and workspace on the eastern side of Amsterdam by the water. So cool. They often have interesting shows there because there are really good artists occupying the studios. But for some reason many art lovers in Amsterdam are a bit slow on the uptake and can’t work out how to get to Azartplein on Tram 7. (In fairness it is suspended at the moment). I think a lot of wonderful art there just passes by. It isn’t visited enough. For those who do get off their backsides and make the effort, there are often amazing things to see. For example this great sculpture. It’s a realistic, life-sized horse and for some reason, it’s blue. (Swipe left). I loved it and would actually have bought it if I could think of somewhere to put it. In the end, I said “Neigh”. (Badoom tish). I think it was made by Sarai van der Boel, (there was only a baggage label beside it). She is an artist, teacher and trainer who has an interesting website full of commentary but not much information of the useful kind we like to share - like where she is from, or when she was born. This it appears is deliberate. Perhaps it’s not her thing? Sarai posted a translation of a poem by Saint Exuperie, 2010. “If you want to interest someone in art don’t just show them the art. Don’t tell them about artists at first. But teach them to look around and be amazed. Then teach them to want to give it a form. Then they’ll understand that when they look at art, they are looking at the result of an investigation.” Making people look and be amazed is everything Wonky aspires to! It works for me Sarai. But we do like to tell people a bit about the artists too. I can’t wait to see more of your art and understand why you made a horse so very well and mostly, why it’s blue! Giddy up Wonky, yee hah!) #saraivandeboel #loods6 #horse

Off Track: Art and philosophy as triggers for system change, by Sarai van de Boel In Off Track, art and philosophy are the inspiration to look differently at daily life and organizations. The book is a plea to approach the complexity of the current world with new metaphors. The author calls this ‘thinking around’. She sees that in ‘square worlds’ there is a need for tools to approach entrenched patterns and systems differently and to get thought processes moving. Sarai van de Boel challenges the reader to look at one’s own systems from the inside with a philosophical approach. In eight chapters there are eight ‘tracks’ to follow, but it is also possible to go off the rails. More than fifty works of art by well-known and lesser-known artists and designers play a role in these traces. The author questions the essence of their works and asks philosophical questions about phenomena they evoke. With Marlene Dumas, Marinus Boezem, L.A. Raeven, Ed Atkins, Wong Ping, Kazumasa Nagai, Remy Jungerman, Otto Piene, Eiko Ishioka, Campana brothers, Ann Demeulemeester and Kara Walker. The book ends with the Art & Philosophy Strategy, a theoretical framework for the use of art and philosophy. Timely. Published by @lecturis Available now in the shop and online. #offtrack #artandphilosophy #hyperhypo #athens
