An unhurried evening at home

This year, NaliBali Foundation is bringing our community together in a different way.

In collaboration with Benda Pema Na Divine: Into Encane Yomndeni - an intimate gathering centred around food, conversation and the beauty of sharing a table.

Limited to just ten guests, this is an invitation to slow down, connect and experience the care that goes into bringing people together, while raising funds for the NaliBali Foundation.

Rooted in Congolese food culture, matriarchal attention to detail and communal harmony, this is more than a meal. It is a space for holding, care and connection.

An evening to breathe.

‎Among many Bantu cultures, the firstborn heir—often called Omusika—was expected to behave in a very disciplined, humble, and responsible way. His behavior reflected not only himself, but the dignity of his entire clan. he was expected to behave:
‎1. With Humility (Obwetowaze)
‎Even though he had authority, he was not supposed to be proud.
‎He greeted elders respectfully, often kneeling or bowing.
‎He listened more than he spoke.
‎He never used his position to oppress others.
‎2. With Wisdom and Calmness
‎The Omusika was trained to think before acting.
‎He avoided anger and quick reactions.
‎In conflicts, he listened to both sides before making a decision.
‎He spoke carefully, because his words carried weight.
‎3. As a Protector
‎He behaved like a guardian of the family.
‎He defended his siblings and cared for them.
‎He ensured no one in the family suffered without help.
‎He protected family property and traditions.
‎4. With Hard Work and Responsibility
‎He was not lazy or dependent.
‎He worked in the fields, cared for animals, or supported family work.
‎He showed others that leadership means serving, not sitting.
‎5. With Respect for Elders and Tradition
‎He followed cultural rules strictly.
‎He consulted elders before making big decisions.
‎He respected rituals, customs, and ancestral practices.
‎He preserved the family name and values.
‎6. As a Peacemaker
‎He was expected to bring unity, not division.
‎When siblings or relatives fought, he helped reconcile them.
‎He avoided gossip, hatred, and jealousy.
‎7. With Moral Discipline
‎His character had to be clean and upright.
‎He avoided bad habits like drunkenness, violence, or disrespect.
‎He showed honesty and truthfulness in all things.
‎8. As a Future Leader
‎Everything he did prepared him to lead.
‎He practiced leadership through small responsibilities.
‎Deep Cultural Principle
‎In Bantu belief, leadership is not power—it is service, character, and legacy.
‎An Omusika who behaved badly could lose respect, but one who lived well became a pillar of the clan and a blessing to generations.#poetry #creativearts #theaterproduction ,#KATONGOLEJUMA #SHALOMFAMILYFOUNDATION ,#africanculture
