I am SO proud and honored to receive a Caribbean Leadership Award from the @caribbeaninboston , presented at the Massachusetts State House! 🇺🇸🇹🇹🇯🇲

THANK YOU to everyone who nominated me. 🥹 Anyone who knows me knows how deeply I love my Caribbean community and how proud I am of ALL the cultures I represent: Caribbean American (Trinidadian + Jamaican), African American/Black New Yorker, and more. They’ve all shaped the artist and cultural curator I am today.

When I came to Boston 11 years ago, I came in strong. 😂 Berklee didn’t have a Caribbean Club, so I fought to create one. When Caribbean students were underrepresented in programming, I spent years advocating for representation on our stages.

When hurricanes devastated our communities, I organized benefit concerts for Dominica, Barbuda, Puerto Rico, and most recently Jamaica.

This year, through @travelthroughmusicbox , I brought Caribbean music and culture to Boston’s iconic Hatch Shell, with 700–800 people coming out to celebrate with us. 🌎🎶

And the Caribbean is ALWAYS present in my artistry. Whether calypso, soca, reggae, kompa or salsa, I proudly carry these sounds onto every stage.

And I’m just getting started. ❤️

I’ve quietly been working on something that feels perfect to share now: Travel Through Music is expanding with a nonprofit foundation! 🌎🎶

Our boxes, books and travel groups will remain for-profit, while our educational, free cultural/music and community programming will have a nonprofit home, allowing us to access more funding and make a greater impact.

I’m also so happy to share this honor with people who’ve been part of my journey, including @herisathetraveler , @mrfenty & @donaldalexis. ❤️

And the ultimate full-circle moment: @marshamonelle . 🥹 Marsha has supported me since DAY ONE in Boston, when I was a budding musician and she was a cultural and academic advisor at Northeastern.

11 years later, seeing our names together and being honored together felt divinely ordained. From arriving in Boston fighting for our cultures to be seen, heard and represented, to being honored for Caribbean leadership at the State House…what a full-circle moment. I’m honored 🙏🏽🫂🙏🏽
