TAKE YOUR DAD TO WORK DAY (Pt 2) ✈️

Christmas morning came around and after a couple of wee presents we'd managed to squeeze into our case, I found that much to my surprise and delight, Santa had heard all my Christmas wishes and due to a flight cancellation, gifted me and the crew a whole extra night in ATX! Perfect. Genuinely couldn't have been happier, and what great timing! More time for me and Dad to explore 🗺

Instead of a walk round the city as we'd planned, Dad took me down memory lane to the Hill Country town of Marble Falls - an old haunt of mine I last frequented in 2018 whilst working at Camp Champions! It was (unsurprisingly) very quiet given everyone was inside celebrating Christmas, but I loved every second. Especially when we drove down to see Camp, and it's famous Spur gateway, itself. After years of me talking about it, Dad finally got to see a little of where I spent the best three summers of my life ❤️

Back on the back roads and we came across a massive herd of Texas Longhorn cattle that Dad was immediately besotted by so we stopped for some pictures. I found the little ranch gate and driveway I've always dreamed about (when do I move in?) and we eventually took a slow drive back to the airport to drop the car off. We hadn't eaten all day and given nothing was open except gas stations, we feasted on crisps and luminous coloured Gatorade for Christmas lunch 😂

Due to our delay, the Captain had organised for us all to indulge in a delicious meal at Fogo de Chão, which was such a treat, and then we had a little gathering in Jason's room before bed 🎅🏼

Our final morning involved a whistlestop tour of the city itself, including the Capitol building, a stop by Mellow Johnny's for Dad, a walk across the river to Chuy's for lunch with my bestie Laney, and then a wander back up South Congress. We obviously couldn't leave empty handed, and thanks to some gentle persuasion I walked away with a new Stetson, and Dad with his own pair of Ariat boots for stomping around in at home! Successful Christmas shopping for sure 🤠

The best trip, and so many memories made! Austin, you'll always have this country girl's heart ❤️

TAKE YOUR DAD TO WORK DAY (Pt 1) ✈️

Dad and I started our Cowboy Christmas adventure with the most fantastic crew to fly with. I generally luck out with most of the people I work alongside, because as a community we're all pretty great, but these guys were just the most fun to be working through Christmas with! Dad (and all the other companions) got seats in Upper, which was just the biggest treat I could've asked for when taking him away with me! He got to enjoy a 3 course meal, fancy flatbed seats, drinks at the bar, mid-flight ice cream, and of course, me serving him smiles in the aisles for 10 hours 😂

Minor setback on arrival trying to sort out a car meant we missed out on the truck of our dreams, but our snazzy Virgin red Dodge Challenger was just as fun! 🚘

The first night involved a trip down Rainey Street which was pretty quiet despite it being Christmas Eve Eve, because it was close to -10° out and the Texans can't cope with that kind of chill. Being Brits though, we wrapped up and had a few in Stagger Lee, some Venezuelan food from the only food truck still open, and then Dad and I headed back to the hotel for a sleep after what was, a long day 😴

Next morning we had breakfast at Snooze AM before we headed out to the South of the city, to explore Gruene. The historic district is a real throwback to a Western town of years-gone-by, complete with General Store, water-mill-turned-restaurant, antiques store, and is even home to the oldest dance hall in all of Texas. We had a beer with Javier, the resident cowboy, before we headed back out on the road 🤠

Rather than taking the highway back to Austin, we took some backroads out to Canyon Lake Park for a walk, before dinner at the deservedly famous Salt Lick BBQ at Driftwood. Dad even risked his life to let me drive which I thought personally was a great decision. This was just the best way to spend Christmas Eve - the food is so so good at Salt Lick, and we both agreed we'd far rather hang out there with some live music and a casual drink, than be out in the bars again for a second night. Our visit was a real highlight and I'm glad Dad got to experience a little of why I love it so much in TX ❤️
