POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

There are walks through a park, and then there are walks that change the way you see the place you’ve been walking through all along.

A huge thank you to my friend Chris (@ctrooper) and everyone at @southvannh for inviting us to experience A Walk in the Park, led by the incredible @nova__wolf_art.

Over the course of the morning, we learned more about the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nations, not only their histories, but also their living cultures, songs, artistic traditions, and enduring relationship with these lands and waters.

Along the way, we listened to Coast Salish music, reflected on the role of art and storytelling, thanked an Elder for their generosity and guidance, and even shared the trail with a great blue heron and a curious seal. It was a reminder that this place is part of a story that began long before the Vancouver we know.

As someone fortunate enough to now call this place home, I’m grateful for opportunities to listen, learn, and deepen my understanding of the lands and the Nations whose stewardship continues today. As a filmmaker, I hope to use my platform to encourage more people to learn directly from Indigenous artists, Knowledge Keepers, and communities.

If you’re interested in learning more, I can’t recommend these programs enough. Give @ctrooper, @nova__wolf_art and @southvannh a follow. They’re creating meaningful opportunities to connect through culture, history, art, and community.

And if you’re in Vancouver tomorrow, don’t miss the 5th Annual All Nations Gathering: Water is Life!

📍 Killarney Community Centre
🗓 Saturday, September 19
🕙 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
✨ Free, no registration required, everyone is welcome.

Thank you again for such a thoughtful and generous experience. Looking forward to the next one.

PS. The audio clipped quite a bit. Still figuring out how to mix the audio properly on iPhone

Wow! Our first event of the year just happened today and a lot of fun and laughter were had 🙂.

Our attendees had the chance to not only make a matcha bowl but also cute items like plates, mugs, and more. A big shoutout to Kevin and Erin who helped our attendees throughout the session with guidance and instruction.

I love how Kevin made every single dead simple, be it opening the vessel or just giving that lil touch to give your bowl a spout.

The demo at the beginning helped a ton as every single step was outlined clearly, which helped all of our attendees make at least one bowl in a matter of 2 hours!

They also got to choose their glaze out of ~15 beautiful glazes or so. Thank you to all of our attendees for coming during this rainy day and the incredible team at One Percent Studio for their support. I also served our attendees a complimentary matcha latte made with Hoshino Seicha-en Yamabuki.

See you at the next one!
