3 months since my stroke and here I am! I spent weeks dreaming of being where I am now. I still have a long way to go but these moments feel monumental!

When I got home, I didn’t know my dog’s name, couldn’t find words, use my arm or walk alone. That’s just the highlights, my body was broken but I was determined. I’ve had to relearn how to be human and I’m thriving with every little triumph 💪🏽 I can finally make a cup of tea without an intervention 🤣🎉

This doesn’t show what it took to get here but these are the moments you dream of every day. Hitting milestones and enjoying all the ‘firsts’. We can get through anything we set our mind to, even when our brains are damaged. The good days and bad days all add up to the same goals. My life changed overnight, now, I’m building a new me. Most of the impact you can’t see but I’m grateful to still be smiling. Positivity is a superpower✨ Every wobbly step is a step closer to being back babyyyy 🎉 I can’t wait to show you my new progress!

This acts as proof of life for everyone in my life as I haven’t seen or spoken to anyone since the stroke. Thank you to everyone who’s sent love, it means more than you’ll ever know. I will reply soon, I still can’t use my phone very often at the moment so I’ll do occasional updates for everyone. BRB 🩵 New life loading… 🪫

9 months post stroke, I found myself back where it all started, in hospital. I’d been so excited about this milestone, celebrating how far I’d come and seeing my progress. This doesn’t undo that, I’ve done it before, I’ll do it again 💪🏽 A reality check for how vulnerable my damaged brain really is, my new normal.

I focus on highlights and triumphs but for stroke survivors, transparency is key in recovery so I want to show that regressions are a part of stroke recovery. You are still progressing, still achieving and you are still a day closer to your next goal. Keep going 💪🏽

Grateful to be back home with my family. Missing my ladies on the ward, my mischievous girl gang causing mayhem together. We cheered each other on with every wobbly step, we blew kisses every morning and laughed till we fell asleep. We shed tears as I left, I’ll forever be grateful I had them through my stay and blown away by the incredible multi-disciplinary team who cared for me at Western General Hospital. As promised, I’m visiting my ladies to keep them smiling & keep them naughty.

Carers week, a drop in the ocean of what is a life changing role. This is dedicated to all unpaid carers, the silent heroes, our loved ones. I can’t help but cry while I write this, it’s been 5 months since my stroke and two lives changed that day. I’ve disappeared from life while I recover, seen and spoken to no one while I adapt and overcome complications. Through all of the unknown, I’ve had one constant, Courtney. There’s no way of capturing how incredible my hero is. She saved my life. Together we’ve adapted to a new normal, she’s advocated for me, battled her own fears through shock, cheerlead me all the way and made me feel safe while I relearn how to be a human. They say you mourn who you once were when you have a stroke, the truth is, we’ve changed together. We’ve shared strength, courage, determination and joy.

Ive been inundated with messages from other stroke survivors and loved ones who have cared for stroke survivors. They’ve shared their stories with support and love, cheering me on and telling me to keep going. They’ve welcomed us into a warm bubble and inspired me. To all caregivers supporting their loved ones and supporting one another, thank you 💜

A stroke can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. No one knows they’re about to have a stroke, your life changes in an instant, it’s vital to act fast. If you suspect something’s wrong, call 999.

Not all strokes present the same. When I had my stroke, I couldn’t see, speak or move. I was dripping in sweat but cold to touch. I kept being sick and couldn’t move or feel my left side. Visually everything was spinning, fast. I felt like I was free falling in circles with the most severe stabbing pain in my head I’ve ever experienced. When I thought I was speaking, nothing was coming out. Thankfully, Courtney acted quickly and called 999.

It’s so important you advocate for someone who’s in a vulnerable position. Emergency services can guide and assess over the phone and proceed to provide help urgently. Act fast, You could save a life 💜

This is what happens when your brain doesn’t know what way’s up 😂😅 Forever grateful for every wobbly step and how far I’ve come. I had to cut some falls to keep it short.. Anyways, whatever’s knocking you down in life, get up, dust yourself off and remember who the f*ck you are 💪🏽

I hope this gave you a laugh or at least made you smile! If I posted it without music you’d hear us laughing the whole time along with Courtney saying ‘I should really be stopping you fall..‘

What a milestone 😮‍💨 The truth is, the moments that break you are the moments that make you. After my stroke, I didn’t recognise myself in the mirror. With no idea who I was, I knew who I wanted to be, and that’s who I’m becoming. I have a life time of scattered memories that don’t feel like my own. My beautiful, broken brain has never stopped healing, adapting and rewiring to give me the best life I can have so I will never stop fighting for the adventures that I dream of every day, collecting ‘little’ triumphs along the way.

We spend our lives torturing ourselves over how we look, what we don’t have or where we wish we were in life. Now, I’d give anything to be ‘too fat’ on a beach somewhere, living all the moments I’d put off until later. Life has a fascinating way of teaching you what’s important and I will never waste this fresh start and second chance at life. I’ll forever be grateful I’m here on the good days and the bad. It’s those days that make me the badass I am 💪 Nothing in life is guaranteed, so stop waiting. Live your best life and make it a story you’ll be proud to tell one day 💜
