I photographed Sir Ian McKellen (@ianmckellen) for The LA Times. I’ve been fortunate to work with some really special individuals, and I don’t take ever take it for granted, but this was one of those times where I got the call and my mouth dropped.

Ian is an absolute legend, Gandalf, Magneto, a lifelong devotee of Shakespeare and the theatre stage who has given more to the craft than most could ever dream, and someone I never could have imagined I’d have the honor of photographing. And of course, he was every bit as lovely as you would expect. I spent a few minutes with him in a hotel room, and I love what we were able to capture.
