I chose the beautiful new “He Say She Say” riddim as my Riddim of the Week because my recently passed artist @rasajaimusic has a touching song on it called “Love Is Kind.” Under different circumstances, I would love hearing and playing his song and would probably bombard him with clips from my streams. Now, hearing his voice brings me to tears. I supported Ras Ajai for many years and called him “my day1 artist.” We always stayed in touch, and I told him how proud I was to see his career growing. Two years ago, he was supposed to tour Europe with Sean Paul but couldn’t get his work permit visa. He had already put me and my friend on the VIP list in Hamburg. During the show, I video-called him so he could watch Sean Paul perform, and afterwards I personally sent Sean Paul greetings from Ras Ajai. Earlier this year, Ras Ajai told me he wanted to tour Europe on his own, so I connected him with someone who could help with his visa. Whenever he had a song on a new riddim, I linked him straight away. He often sent it within minutes, sometimes even the full riddim, and I shared his music with DJs and sounds I’m connected with. Since I started my radio station at the end of June, Ras Ajai has been my most-played artist from day one. I kept sending him screenshots: “You are leading.” Then: “You are STILL leading.” ❤️ Now I had to create a playlist that should never have had to exist: “RAS AJAI — NEVER FORGOTTEN.” On August 2nd, I woke up feeling extremely bad for no reason, like I was going to collapse, and stayed away from social media all day. Looking back, I can’t help but feel like somehow I sensed something was wrong. On August 3rd, I saw a post saying Ras Ajai had been shot and killed. I immediately messaged him: “Please tell me this is not true.” But until today, there has been no answer. Not one day has passed since without me crying. It hurts my heart. It sucks. My day1… I will always support your music and keep your legacy alive. R.I.P. RAS AJAI 🙏🙏 MISS YOU 💔😭

Late reggae artiste Ras Ajai adds another meaningful piece to his legacy, preserving his voice, journey and the music he left behind.

“Love Is Kind” is Ras Ajai’s latest contribution to Money Matters Entertainment’s He Say / She Say Riddim, a multi-artiste project featuring Tanya Stephens, Sizzla, Papa Michigan and others. Both the song and riddim had already been scheduled for release prior to his passing.

“For us, ‘Love Is Kind’ carries an even deeper meaning now. There’s really no playbook for continuing someone’s work while still grieving them, but we refuse to let the violence that took Ajai from us silence his voice or stop the work and mission he already had in motion,” shared his manager, Stanicia “Stylzs” Pate.

Ajai described his music as his “Ghetto Gospel,” using his own journey to show ghetto youths that there is another way, while working to build something meaningful for his daughter and his community.

“We’re simply trying to carry that forward with the same care and purpose he did,” Pate added.
.
Ajai passed away on August 1 in Waterford, Portmore, leaving behind music that his team hopes will continue carrying his message and purpose.

Ras Ajai shared his music with RekHeard Breakerz, and we had the privilege of featuring his record “Let’s Be Honest” on Episode 3, where our DJs heard it, rated it and gave it a RekHeard Break.
