After coming off a two-game road trip where they fell to Kansas State 4-0 and drew against Texas Tech 0-0, Seattle University women’s soccer returned home for the first time this season to take on the University of Montana Aug. 20. The Redhawks added their first tally to the win column, shutting out the Grizzlies 4-0 in dominant fashion.

In the 32nd minute, senior forward Kailee Wilson got the night started for the Redhawks. After receiving the ball from junior midfielder Kyla Shuster, Wilson was able to create space between her and her defender and get a shot off that drilled the top left corner of the net from well outside the box. Not only was this the first goal of the game, this goal marked the first for Wilson this season, as well as the team’s first goal of the year.

This was a game of firsts for the Redhawks, with freshman midfielder Vivien Villarreal also recording her first collegiate goal in the 49th minute. Villarreal showed off her speed by beating out the Montana defenders to receive a pass from Shuster in the upper half of the box, chipping it past the keeper into the bottom right corner of the net.

U’i Kaaihue showed why she was named to the All-WCC Preseason team during this matchup, leading the Redhawks’ scoring efforts, tallying two goals of her own. The first came in the 58th minute, draining it into the top right corner of the goalpost from the left side of the field off a pass from Wilson. The second was the result of a perfectly placed corner kick that found the upper left corner of the net.
