Subaquatica x ELTE💥 “As the world is at its darkest here in the Northern Hemisphere, the Nobel lights illuminate not only the city, but also the world. Through knowledge, integrity, and excellence, through creativity and inspiration, the laureates offer hope.” Professor Astrid Söderbergh Widding, chair of the Nobel Foundation’s committee, opened the 2025 Nobel Prize award ceremony with these words. “Regarding the Nobel Prize in Literature, I originally intended to share my thoughts on hope with you, but I have completely run out of hope,” —this is how László Krasznahorkai began his speech. So what is the current state of hope? Through three thirty-minute audiovisual performances, the artists explore this question with the help of selected texts by Krasznahorkai. The three acts (“Wandering While Standing”; “Hunting for a Butterfly”; “No Hope / All Hope”) can be interpreted as separate works, each inhabiting a different corner of the Krasznahorkai universe; yet they also interpret and modify one another, so it is worth immersing oneself in all three. The performance is created by current and former students of Eötvös Loránd University, the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (Subaquatica), and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, within the framework of an inter-university and intermedia collaboration. Subaquatica is an audiovisual experiment created by Máté Erős (MOME ADM Alumnus) and Ármin Törkenczy (MOME DEMA). The third act of their work dive deep into László Krasznahorhai's work and with the collaboration of ELTE they are taking the event beyond the walls of MOME.
