SUBCO Coffee & Matcha – Arlington, TX

I ordered the Mont Blanc Cold Brew half sweet and the Vietnamese Coffee.

A friend had suggested I try the shop, so I was looking forward to checking it out.

The Mont Blanc Cold Brew, even at half sweetness, was very sweet. The coffee itself was watery and didn’t have enough flavor or body to stand up to the syrup. The orange cold foam on top reminded me of an orange creamsicle and was candy-like. The texture was a little thin rather than a rich, creamy foam. Unfortunately, there was not much coffee flavor in the drink.

I was really hoping the Vietnamese coffee would redeem the visit. I usually enjoy the balance of strong coffee and creamy condensed milk. Unfortunately, the coffee had a distinctly burnt taste. It did have that nice, rich sweetness from the condensed milk, but the burnt flavor was hard to get past. I had D try it as well since he drinks straight Americanos and loves Vietnamese coffee, so strong coffee is not an issue for him. Unfortunately, he had the same reaction to the flavor.

The shop is located in a strip mall with a handful of small tables and brightly colored chairs. It struck me more as a grab-and-go place than a place to hang out. The space is fairly simple.

I enjoy finding coffee shops that offer unusual flavor combinations, but I still want the coffee itself to be the focus. Unfortunately, neither drink really delivered for me. @subco.coffee
