A jazz grant with no fixed formula.

Hi! We’re Jazz Roads, a grant program for musicians! We offer two main sources of artist grant funding:
→ Jazz Road Tour Grants
→ Jazz Road Creative Residency Grants

A lot of musicians don’t know what a Jazz Road Creative Residency actually funds so we wanted to explain in the simplest terms.

Swipe through the carousel above for the full breakdown, because it’s built to flex around whatever your project needs and feel free to ask any questions in the comments below.

Funding goes directly to you, the artist, between $5,000 and $40,000, to cover:
→ Artist fees for creative development, rehearsal, performance, and community engagement
→ Travel, lodging, and meals
→ Space rental, recording, and production
→ Communications and promotion
→ Project management, supplies, and permits

Jazz Road Creative Residencies exist to remove the financial barriers that keep artists from investing deeply in their own creative practice.

🔗 Visit JazzRoad.org (link in bio) to review full grant details, meet past Jazz Road Tour and Creative Residency alumni, helpful resources for musicians, and stay tuned into social media for the announcement of the next application cycle.

Save this post and share it with a musician in your life who needs to see it. ⬇️

JRD takes on the Toronto International Tap Dance Festival! 👞✨ @totapfest

A few of our very lucky dancers had the opportunity to attend the Saturday evening of the 2026 Toronto International Tap Dance Festival in Toronto! 🎶

What an incredible experience for these young dancers to witness professional tap dance live on stage and connect with some prolific names in the tap dance community -- including Subject:Matter, Boys’ Club, Heather Cornell, Bril Barrett, Victoria Miller, and more!

Experiences like these are so valuable for young dancers -- giving them the chance to see where their training can take them, experience the art form beyond the studio, and be inspired by the incredible artists who continue to shape tap dance today. 🫶

A huge thank you to @tiffkriter for organizing such a special trip for our dancers! 💜

Tap and jazz share the same rhythmic roots. This residency is bringing them back together.

Boston-based tap dancer and composer Ian Berg is a recipient of a 2026 Jazz Road Creative Residency grant. Over three retreats in Vermont and Massachusetts, he and his ensemble, Subject:Matter, are exploring new tap textures and recording a full album built to bridge the tap and jazz communities.

The project carries lessons from mentors Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, and Joe Lovano, and it’s driven by a simple hope: that tap dancers and jazz musicians can share the bandstand again, the way they did at the start of jazz. @subjectmattertap @ianberg67

This is what a Creative Residency grant makes possible: time, space, and trust for an artist to follow a new sound wherever it leads.

Follow along as the project unfolds, and visit JazzRoad.org to learn more about Jazz Road Creative Residency grants and Jazz Road Tour Grants, supporting mid-career jazz artists nationwide.

Back in 2022, Dianne Walker was our artist-in-residence for the festival. We learned so much from her (as we always do), including how important and fulfilling it is to look after each other within this art form.

During that residency, Ian Berg not only performed in Jumaane Taylor’s Supreme Love, but also spent the entire festival assisting Dianne and our residency dancers.

Now, this year, we’re excited to bring his company’s work into our 2026 festival programming.

Catch @subjectmattertap on Saturday, August 22, as part of our show, Convergence! Plus, take his masterclass earlier that day. Tickets and registration are live - head to the 🔗 in our bio 💜
