Two weekends ago I was fortunate to visit Nancy Bowen’s incredible solo exhibition @nunufineart in SoHo, NYC. Nancy taught me over 25 years ago and today to see her art soaring is such an inspiration! Powerful sculptures made of colorful beads, cement, clay, metals, intricate geometries of the feminine divine line up like warriors, surrounded by collages of history and language, patterns that reveal Nancy’s humorous spirit and fury against the current government. It was magical to see Nancy and hear about her process and influences. Thank you for the walk through, Nancy! It was wonderful to see Meridith Pingree and Shae Nadine to share art and food with. Thank you!!!❤️🙏 @nancybowenarts @meridithpingree @subtleflux

We are pleased to present from our February exhibition "Wounds, Fears, & Healing" recently shown at Novi Hram Gallery in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: Shae Nadine || SubtleFlux "Conjunctio" Wet felted merino wool, silk chiffon, iridescent silk chiffon, red eyelash yarn, silver thread, olive oil soap 11"h x 8.5"w "Joseph Beuys believed to heal, we must show our wounds. Conjunctio brings together two similar albeit uniquely different pieces of fabric: stitched silver threads highlight the beauty of repair while labour-intensive wet felted wools create a bond where fibers permeate delicate silks, hidden red eyelash fibers peek through and offer insight into internal/hidden complexities. Imperfections and challenges come together to manifest a stronger bond and future. Through the alchemy of friction, pressure, and heat these once separate fragments unite as a resilient artifact, an alchemical expression of connection." ~ Shae Nadine || SubtleFlux "Wounds, Fears & Healing" Novi Hram Gallery Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina February 7-14, 2026 Curated by Dr. George Rivera @georgefredrivera with co-curator Pamela Beverly-Quigley @pbquigley "Wounds, Fears, and Healing" invites artists to "reveal and explore the fractures that shape us and to ask what it means to face our wounds and fears openly, with others, to share in the evolution of recovery. Inspired by Joseph Beuys’ 'Show Your Wound' and his belief that creativity has the potential to heal, the exhibition’s artists explore wounds as sites of pain and truth, often concealed and avoided out of fear. Healing begins when the wound is faced and revealed, allowing art to serve as a form of social revelation and shared reckoning." #WoundsFearsAndHealing #NoviHramGallery #Artnauts #BosniaandHerzegovina #Sarajevo #SarajevoWinter #SociallyConsciousArt #ArtMatters #ArtforPeace #ShaeNadine #SubtleFlux @subtleflux

Comment the word “Podcast” and my VVrkbot will send you a link. What does it feel like to return to your art practice after a 25-year break? In this episode of Art Problems, I speak with visual artist Shae Nadine || @SubtleFlux (@subtleflux) about navigating an art world that had completely transformed in her absence. When Shae joined Netvvrk two years ago, she was figuring out basics like digital documentation and artist statements. But through accountability groups and community support, she went from feeling lost to landing a NYSCA grant, a SuCasa residency, and curating a four-month public art exhibition in Chicago. This conversation gets into the unglamorous parts of building an art career—like why Shae’s accountability group toasts their rejections, how to know when you’re actually ready to apply for major grants, and why sometimes the best thing you can do for your relationship is stop asking your partner to read your artist statement. If you’ve ever felt like an outsider in the art world, I recommend listening to Shae’s story. Bio: Shae Nadine nom de guerre SubtleFlux is a child of a refugee immigrant and first generation Canadian interdisciplinary artist who leverages bio-scientific techniques with more traditional artistic processes that together bear witness to the fragile nature of our relationship with the environment and our symbiotic interdependence. They have exhibited in the US and abroad, with exhibitions in NYC, Chicago, Rwanda, Colombia and Brazil. Recently recruited to the longstanding Social Practice Collective The Artnauts and a founding member of the IP3 and Hybrid Collectives. They are founder and Chief Curator of Poche Projects based in Long Island City, NYC.

From our recent exhibition "ADAPTATION" in Brazil: Shae Nadine "into the microVerse –Mosaic" Digital image of ethically sourced for science baby squid photographed through a compound microscope. Photographic Giclee print on Hahnemühle photo rag Baryta paper. 7.5 x 5.5" "‘into the microVerse – Mosaic’ was photographed through a compound microscope and bears witness to an ethically sourced for science, newly hatched baby squid’s first minutes. Chameleons of the sea, cephalopods have adaptation mechanisms that involve electrical impulses from brain signals to chromatophores, organs in their skin that change color and texture for camouflage. Diverging from their ancestors over 400 million years ago, we know from molecular findings that coleoid cephalopods have been present since the early Devonian period. They adapt and adjust to put themselves in the best position for survival." ~Shae Nadine "ADAPTATION" Galeria Do CAUA, the University of the Amazon Manaus, Brazil February 7- March 31, 2025 The exhibition "Adaptation" reflects on the ways humanity navigates challenge–both environmental and societal–in a world facing global impacts of climate change. Survival through adaptation is a fundamental mechanism for life, allowing us to alter our course, recalibrate, innovate, and engage in dialogue towards redemption in the face of crisis. Our communities evolve to meet the demands of our uncertain future, both in Manaus and in the United States. In the face of persistent devastation, nature and humanity need restoration. The Artnauts offer intuitive concepts through their art to encourage divergent thinking across all experiences of adaptation." -Curatorial essay Curated by @georgefredrivera, with assistant curators Pamela Beverley-Quigley @pbquigleyart and Trine Bumiller @bumiller_art. I received a couple of sweet messages from NY today - all related to the recent curatorial work I’ve done there. So, here’s to #curators and especially my kind, generous neighbor this year, @soft_soul_studio, who curated the colossal “Memory” show next to “The Good Neighbor” exhibition (all thoughtfully planned, yes, by the Master curator, Norma)! 📸 @speliotisvideo @reiko.y_ Featured here: Norma Homberg, Carolina Penafiel, @annalisa_iadicicco and Shae Nadine. Big shoutout to Yvette Hidalgo, Sherwin Banfield, Sunny Moxin Chen, Jack Rohe Howard-Potter and Linda Bradford who also curated pop-ups for this year’s edition of @licartsopen. P.S. I’m holding a fabulous print by @eric_hagan_art in my hand, and the dress I wore at the Closing party is made by @meghunline. #curator #artist #community #bettertogether

Inspired by the “vicoli”of Naples, Italy, where clotheslines speak in silence, Anima transforms @plaxallproperties lot into a poetic, street-like installation. Conceived by artist-curator @annalisa_iadicicco the exhibition explores identity, presence, and the invisible threads that bind us. From @subtleflux magnified microscopy projections to @sincerely.yunray garments imprinted with memory, Anima is a space of connection. @graciela_cassel Circle of Desire performance invites reflection, while Reed Wilson of @themotorcompanynyc turns the Blue Bus into a sensory world of sound and light. Featuring work by @margaret_mightyoak @ballaro_dance @rhizobo, @jcwkdancelab @meditation_in_queens @collective.ripples and @yourgreatauntmilly, Anima is a living landscape of art, movement, and meaning.
