Many thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate Albany International Airport Gallery’s Patterns of Engagement exhibition last Friday night. Each artist’s interpretation of the airport environment has yielded remarkable works. We selected two winners of Chris St. Cyr’s airport-wide scavenger hunt, Quotidian Motifs, and look forward to the completion of exciting projects in development for the terminal by Jack Magai, Adam Frelin and Chris Victor.

Patterns of Engagement is on view through Monday, March 2, open daily 7am-11pm on the third floor of the terminal.

Join us for a reception for the Albany International Airport Gallery’s exhibition Patterns of Engagement, January 17, 5:30-7:30 pm on the third floor of the terminal.

Eight artists were invited to conduct investigations and observations into the Airport’s people, infrastructure and systems, and develop new works of art based upon those experiences and interactions. Their responses are unique to this place and time, and encourage dialogue and discovery among travelers and employees. Each project prompted new questions, required new partnerships and redefined art in the Airport as something that can be shaped by those who inhabit the space. Here you will see the works that grew out of these engagements, as well as in some cases earlier works that shed light upon each artist’s approach to processes, subjects and materials.

As Albany International Airport undergoes significant expansion and renewal, eight artists make investigations and observations within the terminal’s built environment and community that generate new works uniquely responsive to this place and time. At work here are Laini Nemett, Richard Garrison, Chris Victor and Tasha Depp.

This exhibition will expand and change as the artists’ engagements develop and take material form, culminating in an public reception held on January 17, 2020.
