To my younger self,

Look at you—so full of dreams, questions, and emotions that sometimes feel too heavy to carry. I see you. I know the battles you fight in silence, the moments of doubt, the times you felt like you weren’t enough. But let me tell you something—you are ENOUGH, and you always have been.

You came into this world fighting, born 2 months early, proving from the start that you were meant to be here. Life threw its challenges at you—being teased for your beautiful dark skin, struggling with dyslexia, battling anxiety, depression, & even the darkest of thoughts. You questioned your worth when people judged your body, your dance moves, your friendships, your choices. You faced the shame & whispers when you had a child out of wedlock, the sting of dropping out of college, the heartbreak of walking away from a 10 year marriage. You carried the weight of balancing life, growth, and motherhood alone, all while navigating financial struggles, moving from place to place just to stay afloat, and even facing legal troubles.

YET, through it all, you never give up. You never let the world see your weakest moments. Instead, you kept showing up, kept smiling, kept celebrating others—even when you felt overlooked. And God was with you through every single step. He surrounded you with love in the form of your parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, friends, and the most incredible children. Even when they weren’t physically near, their prayers lifted you, their love carried you, and their belief in you never wavered.

Now, here I am at 40, standing strong & thriving. I’ve endured the tests, and now I walk in my testimony. I will no longer downplay my victories or overlook my own worth. I celebrate myself—my strength, my resilience, my beauty, my faith. I honor the journey, the pain, & the lessons. I claim the greatness that has always been within me.

I am an amazing daughter, mom, friend, and BLACK WOMAN—and this is just the beginning.

So, to you, my younger self, hold on. Keep fighting. Keep believing. Keep smiling. You will make it. And when you do, you will stand in awe of the masterpiece God has been creating all along.

Sincerely,
40 year old me 🪷
