🎙️ Nile Active on the BBC

On 12 June, we had the pleasure of joining Kamilah McInnis on BBC Local Radio at the @bbcsussex in Brighton to talk about our ABP Southampton Marathon campaign, our causes, the ongoing crisis Sudan and the struggles of our diaspora in the UK, Nile Active, our journey so far and more.

It was a special opportunity to share our story with a wider audience and reflect on how far we’ve come.

A huge thank you to Kamilah and the BBC for having us and to everyone who continues to support Nile Active. 💚

85 runners. Every distance. Every finish line. 🏁

What you all did today at the Southampton Marathon was genuinely special. From first time 5Ks to full marathon finishes… every single one of you showed up, pushed through and earned that medal. We’re proud of all of you.

This was bigger than just a race. Seeing runners come together from different cities, run clubs and backgrounds for something that matters… that’s what it’s all about.

Big love to @sanabodecafe for holding it down and keeping everyone fuelled all day.

Shoutout to @sudsocsoton bringing together such a strong Southampton University crew.

And to everyone who travelled in, ran independently or repped their clubs… you made this what it was.

Massive shoutout to @tyronetshirts for getting our runners right with our amazing custom shirts!

Huge thank you as well to @sadagaat_uk and @etharrelief for sponsoring us.

This is just the beginning. 🫶🏽

𝐑𝐮𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐝𝐚𝐧 – 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫

Whether you’re running 5K, 10K, half marathon, or the full distance, this is about more than fitness. It’s about solidarity. It’s about showing up for Sudan.

You don’t need to be an athlete. Walk, jog, or run—whatever you can do. What matters is the collective effort and the cause behind it.

After more than three years of war, Sudan is now facing the worst manmade humanitarian crisis in the world, caused by the war between Sudan’s two main militias — the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and fuelled by regional and global imperialist powers:

• An estimated 𝟏𝟓𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎–𝟒𝟎𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 people have been killed
• Around 𝟏𝟒 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 people have been displaced — the largest displacement crisis globally
• 𝟑𝟒 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 people need humanitarian aid
• 𝟐𝟏 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 people are facing severe hunger

Entire cities have been destroyed, healthcare systems have collapsed, and millions are cut off from basic necessities.

What began with the Sudanese Society at the University of Southampton (@sudsocsoton) has grown into a city-wide effort. Students, runners, and community members are coming together to raise funds to rebuild infrastructure and support vital social services in Sudan.

Bring your friends. Bring your energy.

🚨Restore Sudanese Student Visas🚨

The UK government’s sudden “emergency brake” has ended academic futures overnight with hundreds of students’ futures at risk. The blanket ban punishes students and scholars whose only connection to the asylum system is their nationality.

As a devastating proxy war engulfs Sudan. The UK repeatedly claims to support “safe and legal routes” for those fleeing conflict. However, the study visa, work visa, and visit visa are all effectively closed, blocking legal entry entirely. Rather than examining why people are forced to flee, the government has chosen to punish those desperately seeking safety.

We need to act now and act fast as the Visa Brake will be enforced on the 26th March.

🔗 Head to the website linked in our bio& email your MP to push for a targeted exemption for verified scholars and students.
