I didn’t know life or work could be as beautiful as it was last week during the workshop of my new musical The Northeast Corner. I told my therapist yesterday, it’s like there has always been a Northeast Corner-shaped hole in me—and by some grace of the universe, plus a gorgeous team of theatermakers who are now permanently enshrined in the Katie Dahl Hall of Fame, I am now given the opportunity to fill it.

So I am naturally in 💚L❤️O🤍V💛E💜 with every person in these photographs, the people who embodied and oxygenated this heart-deep piece of mine. Some of them I’ve known for 32 years and some for a week, but I am drunk on adoration for all of them. A week of buzzing (totally separate from the incredible cocktails @doorkinetic provided every time we turned around). A week of group crying and tight hugs and so much laughter. No matter the future of The Northeast Corner, this piece, and therefore my heart, will forever carry these people inside it.

Gina Cornejo. Kirsten Fitzgerald. Kat Wodtke. Sue Demel. Eric Lewis. Karen Mal. Julie Wolf. Leda Hoffmann. Harm Snellenberger. I hope you all learned from the play that saying a person’s name is really just a way of saying you love them.

And I can’t leave out the crackerjack team of DKAF (especially Eric Simonson), workshop co producers Milwaukee Rep, and all the people who came out to the shows, some from many miles away, to complete the creative circuit.

When there is a real production someday I might just float away. 🎈 I am just…beside myself.

Thanks to @eric_lewis_901 and @suedemel for sitting in with me at @doorkinetic last week! I’m back in Milwaukee and excited for our full band shows coming up this Friday at @vivariummke (supporting Them Coulee Boys) and Saturday at @riveredgenaturecenter in Saukville for their fall festival. These will be our last Long Mama appearances until 2027 so we really hope you come!

Tickets on sale now.

There’s nothing Lorena Hickok loved more than seeing her name in a newspaper. I imagine she’s looking down fondly 📰

A few highlights from the side stage at Reynolds Hall. Dancing Kerry Yost! Wish I could have captured more, but I was playing on all the other songs. Thanks to Keri and everybody for such an amazing night. 💖
