This week, we're bringing back one of our favorite roasters: @xliiicoffee

This release will open on Friday 09/26 at 10am PST. Subscribers get early access & discounts on Wednesday 09/24 at 10am PST.

As a fair warning, these guys roast LIGHT. It's a pretty soluble roast, but it needs a long time to open up. It really needs 8 weeks rest minimum, but we think it actually opens up around the 3 month mark. Be patient with this coffee! You likely won't enjoy it if you aren't!

They have a great lineup from them this month. For traditional clean washed coffees, the Ethiopian 🇪🇹 and 2 @fincasmierisch1908 coffees will be excellent. I love Finca Miersch and am very excited for their roast of it 🇳🇮

@cafegranjalaesperanza Sudan Rume is becoming one of my favorite process forward coffees. Very excited for their roast of it. I think it will work very well with their profile 🇨🇴

And last, but not least, they have some very unique origins that they are highlighting this month. @ratnagiri_estate has one of the most advanced processing facilities in the world. They have very unique coffee, but I haven't seen many light/ul roasts of their coffee. Very excited to compare this to Shoebox's Ratnagiri (different green) 🇮🇳

They also have a washed Racemose from @sukkotcoffee in South Africa! 🤯 I have never seen a Racemosa or a South African coffee. And these "exotic" varieties are often very processed. This is a super unique coffee that you shouldn't pass up! 🇸🇸

A pesquisa segue.

🇬🇧 An unforgettable gift from the homeland of Coffea racemosa

While researching exotic coffee species at IAC (Brazil), I came across Sukkot Coffee — one of the few Coffea racemosa producers in the world.

This species is endemic to the “Elephant Coast”, from southern Mozambique to KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Marlene and Franz have been cultivating racemosa since 2001, with care and a deep connection to the land.

They recently sent me a gift that truly moved me.

In this video, I share the moment of opening this box — something that came from far away, but somehow also feels close. It reminds us how important it is to value and preserve the diversity of the Coffea genus, both in Brazil and worldwide.

The research continues, and moments like this remind me we’re on the right path.

Thank you, Marlene and Franz from @sukkotcoffee, for your generosity and this beautiful gesture that crossed the ocean.

With love, from Campinas to Hluhluwe.
