Day 36 - the bonus of ripping out floors is you often find a hidden surprise 😳

Today’s treat was a selection of giant rats which had got into the floor and died 🙌 so after they had been removed it was time to get on with the dig out and kitchen removal

New water main going into the guest house and more brickwork in the new extension part of the build

Due to the mud and rain Eric was forced to wear the dressing gown of shame which as you can see he wasn’t thrilled about 🤣

These clients came to @summer.house.group to design and supply the kitchen for their new extension.

The brief was to create an open-plan space for entertaining and relaxing, with clever storage and a palette that felt bright and warm.

The result is a bespoke Shaker kitchen that’s light, functional and full of character. Open shelving keeps everyday essentials close at hand while providing a place for personal pieces. An oak herringbone floor brings warmth underfoot, while our Kilburn handles and knobs in polished nickel provide a crisp contrast against the dusky green kitchen cabinets.

Day 35 - it’s Friday mass destruction of a 500 year old Hall!

Look away if you are of a nervous disposition- but this is where the inside of a 1512 building is undergoing a bit of a make or break exercise.

Damp floors out, rotten timbers out, ceilings down and general levelling, removal and strip back, whilst praying it stays standing 😱😱😱😱

Luckily this is just the rear of the house - the 1720 bit is in much better condition so I think after 500+ years a bit of work is needed

All part of the evaluation to the next chapter of the house, ensuring the oldest bit stays standing!

Day 34 - and the rain yesterday can only mean one thing…. I now have a mud bath, lucky me!

Walls are flying up including the base of the outdoor kitchen - inside of the house is complete carnage

Hold onto the vision as one day it will be nice, pray for me 🤞😆🤦🏼‍♀️

Day 33 - it’s time for a bit of a horror show - are you ready, this is a lesson in why you should never renovate an old house, let alone a very old one…

Something has had a good munch at the woodwork

And someone has notched out most of what was left

And the lumpy ceiling cause has been exposed

We have a lot of dodgy woodwork

You have to love a lintel that doesn’t meet the wall as it has rotted away

Or you could just have a lintel that is like honeycomb from rot and time

And then you get this ensemble which is notching and being eaten so you have this tiny piece of wood supporting a ceiling

And then you find out the floorboard are nailed to the lath and to take them up the ceiling is also coming out downstairs in a room which wasn’t being done

And voila this ceiling now has to come out and be replaced and redecorated - trying not to do a cry face 🫣😭😭😭

Day 32 - who fancies a tour of my house?

When you own a house which started life in 1512 there is a lot to unpick and fix - and we are off and running inside the house - pray for me 🙏🏻 and send donations if you wish 🤣🤣😳

Day 31 - and it’s time to start the mass destruction of a very old house 💥

First up is the strip out of the old dressing room which will become our new bedroom - we need to pack this room with insulation as it is freezing!!!

Next up is our old bedroom that will become a dressing room of dreams with a living lounging/ hiding from kids area of grown up loveliness

The old damp laundry room is stripped ready for a new swanky fitted out utility with underfloor heating and a tonne of storage

The old back stairs of death are out!! I have nearly killed myself on these stairs a million times and nearly everyone who has visited the house has got some form of concussion off them - this will be our wine room!

Be gone old killer stairs 💥 this will be the entrance to my new kitchen

And the playroom has been attacked with a saw and will become the new boot room with a dropped floor and new entrance door

The kitchen is looking a bit sad but this is be completed demolished and will be fully rebuilt as a dining room - keep watching to see what happens

Day 29 - time for a sneak peak

The wall is springing up - although the brickies are not loving my encouragement to build to a target line on the wall 🤣

But what will be in this space - well here’s a sneak peak of the design by @summer.house.group @anniecwt of what this will look like - what do you think?

Day 28 - sorry slightly late as I had to wait for light again!

Back to the bricks and the first of the @imperialbricksltd bricks are going in which will look awesome

Then the wall on the driveway is coming back a bit so is having the front knocked off

Then a bit of imagination needed but this shows where the pantry off the kitchen will be going - I will need to resist the urge to fill it with stuff so it looks pretty as it won’t have a door. Now just need to figure out where the air fryer will go 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️

Day 27 - more brickwork here today - lots of planning on the outdoor kitchen design and where it will be built into the wall to house the @biggreenegguk and @gozney

Which means that it’s time to sell the existing kitchen before the big phase starts on ripping out the inside of the house - yes it’s all going kitchen sink and all.

Anyone need a kitchen? I can send you the eBay link 🤣

Day 26 - the mini boss is back on site today and after letting the brickies have a go at the block work we then got a huge delivery from @imperialbricksltd colour matched to the existing house, they are a great local firm essential for all heritage style works.

Then the mini boss stepped in and showed them how he wants his walls built with a quick lesson - now they are set up for the week ahead 🧱

Happy weekend all!
