@summerhallarts at @edfringe needs your help. The future of the venue is existentially threatened by the development plans by the new owners. Please voice your concerns urgently by following the link https://www.summerhallconsultation.co.uk/have-your-say.php. Last week, developer AMA Homes unveiled plans to convert Summerhall into student housing, serviced apartments and a hotel, retaining only a fraction of the site as an arts centre. Under AMA Homes’ plans, only three of Summerhall’s current performance spaces would survive, despite the developer previously promising that the arts would “remain a priority”. #savesummerhall @worldfringe #worldfringe #fringefamily #edfringe @summerhallery @gafferdog @thestageuk #trending

Slightly uncomfortable (especially for the model) life-drawing session ‘the model as sculptural element’ with @reconfigure and Franco-Iranian photographer XEDER. Must go see the exhibition now @summerhallery and looking forward to Dîdâr: I am the feather and the bird is the precipice – Facilitated Critique with Bram Gieben on Saturday. #LifeDrawing #ArtExhibition #ModelAsArt #XEDERPhotography #Summerhallery FacilitatedCritique

🚨 This could be a crucial week in the future of Summerhall. Here's what's happening. If you care, get involved if you can. * Developer, AMA (New Town)'s re-application notice seeks permission for: "Partial selective demolition of existing buildings and redevelopment of the site for mixed use development comprising an arts centre cultural, community and venue spaces, commercial leisure and food/drink, small retail; commercial business space for employment/office space; hotel/leisure visitor accommodation and venue spaces; residential accommodation in a blend of co-Living, student and apartments (sui generis); associated amenity space, landscaping, infrastructure and ancillary works." * Developer, AMA (New Town) Limited, is holding drop-in pre-application public consultation event on Wednesday between 3pm and 7:30pm at Summerhall, where it says it will 'provide information on the proposed development and the opportunity to provide feedback.' * Summerhall is home to more than 100 artists and businesses. Perhaps coincidentally, Summerhall Arts has issued a press release highlighting its festival successes and 'year-round support helping artists build the work that drives Scotland’s cultural life'. Within it, Sam Gough ( @gafferdog ) Chief Executive of @summerhallarts Summerhall Arts, said: "Protecting year-round cultural infrastructure and the spaces where artists can take risks is vital. The future of our festivals depends on the artists and organisations that create and develop the work long before it reaches August." * The new Southside councillor Ruth Elliott @edinburghwithruth said: "Summerhall is an absolute pillar of community and arts in Edinburgh. The plans that have gone in might include some demolition on this site. It's really important that you make your voice heard on what the future of Summerhall should look like." * Thanks to the Southside Community Council @southsidecommunitycouncil for being first to flag this up on Instagram 💚

Although the work for the upcoming Garvald exhibition at @summerhallery is mostly all finished and ready to present, there is still a lot to do. Everyone pitched in this week as Brian and Rebecca cut some plywood to Morven's measurements and then she, Tony, Anne-Lise, Olivia, Ben and Thomas sanded and painted them ready to show off the excellent pieces from the glass and pottery workshops. Follow @garvaldartists for more info on the exhibition! @garvaldedinburgh #garvaldedinburgh #garvaldexhibition
