Episode 2 of Road to Worlds - Guest Reveal:

🎙️Mandi Augustyn launching on Friday.

When I was a nipper, there was one line I always heard over the speakers at every SA Champs: “And Mandi Maritz goes onto the podium.” I still hear it now as a master. And now, I finally get to ask her about all of it.

Mandi was playing by the river opposite the Blue Water Bay clubhouse every day, so her mum signed her up for Nippers before she got into trouble in the water. She won her first carnival.

Then came six World Championships for South Africa, World Interclub sprint gold for Summerstrand in Egypt in 2010, and a medal at every Worlds she raced until 2018. The most consistent female lifesaving athlete of our generation, and she’s never been boring about it: SA sprints with her arm in a sling, SA flags gold after a boat propeller cut her femoral artery, and a Worlds flags final she nearly slept through.

This year Worlds comes to her hometown, and she’s coming out of retirement. Now as a mum, a business owner and a masters athlete.

Swipe through. Then come and hear how she stayed there.

Episode 2 is out Friday on Spotify and YouTube.

🇿🇦 #LWC2026 | Built by Purpose. Ready to Represent. | Sienna Gous

For Sienna Gous, lifesaving has been part of her life since she was just five years old.

Starting as a micro nipper at @summerstrandsurf she quickly fell in love with the sport. Over the years, lifesaving has given her the opportunity to develop valuable life skills, grow in confidence and become the athlete she is today.

Now, at 16 years old, Sienna is preparing to represent South Africa for the second time. This year’s ILS Lifesaving World Championships 2026 will be especially meaningful as she competes on her home beach in Gqeberha - a place she knows well and where her lifesaving journey first began.

Reflecting on what it means to wear the green and gold, Sienna says:

“Having the privilege to wear the green and gold means I am representing not only myself, but my family, my coaches, my teammates, and everyone who has supported me in achieving this. It motivates me to work hard, compete with pride, and always give my best. I hope to inspire others to chase their dreams and show that with dedication, perseverance, and passion, anything is possible. I am looking forward to the journey ahead and keeping the South African flag flying high.”

For Sienna, representing South Africa is about honouring everyone who has supported her journey and inspiring the next generation to believe that, with dedication, perseverance and passion, anything is possible.

They are competitors. They are volunteers. They are lifesavers. They are role models.
