We’re wrapping up our Coach Appreciation Week with our Barbell Club Head Coach: Jim!

Learn more about him below and make sure to check out @cebarbell if you’re interested in joining the club 🏋️‍♂️

Fun fact: I lived/worked in Ireland for several years 🇮🇪

Favorite lifting movement: As a person who has some serious shoulder issues, safety bar squats I guess

Outside of coaching: I’m a collegiate strength & conditioning coach for a local university

Favorite Post workout meal/snack: I usually just hit a protein shake and an apple 🍎

Beyond full of love. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to lift, load, judge, coach, spectate, speak on the mic, and so on. The @illinois_weightlifting community was rocking on good vibes all weekend! 🤘🤘
.
I don't want to toot my own horn, but I am pretty damn proud of myself, @krismack744 and @southloopsc for hosting a fantastic meet. These things take a lot out of you, but give back so so much more. We couldn't have done it without you all.
.
Thank you to all our vendors and sponsors as well!

Last week, Lisa, Lisa's dad, Robin and Sara absolutely dominated Master's Nationals with their incredible barbell club and coach, Summit Barbell.

David, Lisa's 91-year-old(!) dad, kicked things off with 5/6 made lifts, took the gold (champion!) and set some new records!

Lisa took silver for her snatch, clean & jerk AND overall!

Robin secured her spot on the podium with the bronze, also across the board!

Sara earned her first championship title with 1st in the snatch, 2nd in the clean & jerk and 1st overall (with a 151 kg lifetime PR!) for her age and (new) weight class!

The Summit women's team also took 2nd overall!

You never cease to amaze. We are so so proud of our inspiring lifters 🤩

Sara, Robin and Lisa will also lift next Saturday, April 27, right here in Chicago! Stay tuned for more details for the Illinois State Championship at South Loop Strength and Conditioning.

What a week/weekend down in Baton Rouge. We took down 6 athletes (7 if you count our foster) and our athletes walked away with 3 Gold Medals, 3 Bronze Medals, and a 4th place finish. Our worst performance was a 4/6 with a two 6/6 performances, and for only the second time in our program’s history, we had an athlete win best lifter (Chris Branam in 35-39).

On top of getting to spend most of the weekend and a hockey game with some of my favorite Chicago peeps, my heart is full from this weekend.

One more to go in two weeks at the Illinois State Meet and then some downtime to prepare for the second half of the year. Seriously count my blessings every day that I get to live the dumbest life of all time, calling this my job and these people my friends and athletes.

@summit.barbell rolled into Masters Nationals Weightlifting in Baton Rouge this past week with some big time goals and so proud of our crew who backed it up on the platform. 12 lifters competed in Louisiana and we came home with:
3 National Championships
21 medals overall (7 🥇, 7 🥈, 7 🥉)
2nd place in the Women’s team standings!

Thank you to each lifter for trusting me through this meet and giving your all down there, special thanks to @gschamberlin for volunteering her time and effort to assist me with all of our lifters and a massive thank you to everyone who was able to watch on the livestream and support our crew! Can’t wait for Boise, Idaho in 2025!! #usamasterswl #mastersweightlifting #illinoisweightlifting #chicagoweightlifting #snatch #cleanandjerk #eleiko

Coach Sara is lifting in her 4th Master's National competition with Summit Barbell and Coach Jim (5th overall)!

Catch her LIVE at 9 am, Saturday, April 13, on the blue platform.

Sara doesn't need luck but we're sending it anyway! We know all of her hard work and dedication will pay off and she'll do absolutely amazing 💪

Are you interested in running/hosting a meet?! I have some tips for you. I have run a lot of large scale events in this industry and I have developed some very useful event management tools/tips.
.
The first thing I do after any event is an immediate debrief. What went well, what caused friction, what was super annoying and frustrating etc, and write it all down in notes. That way before you host your next event, you can try to make your life easier by solving friction points.
.
Here is one useful take-a-way of a friction point, 130 athlete's emailing changing weights, and made it automated. So use this to save your inbox and your soul.
.
Yes athletes can change their own weight classes, but let's be real, they aren't taking the time to figure it out. Haha
