Before the roof was finished on site, we had a bit of a major incident — the temporary covers were either not secured properly or got blown off in strong winds. The result: rain poured in and soaked the internal blockwork and face brick.

Now that the extension is finished, we’ve been dealing with a fair bit of efflorescence — those white salt bands that appear when moisture evaporates through the bricks.

We’ve researched some options and this product seems to be working well to remove it. It’s important to also make sure the moisture source is resolved — whether it’s leftover construction moisture or a more active issue like a leak. We’ll wait a couple of weeks after applying the cleaner to make sure the salts don’t reappear before deciding whether or not to seal the bricks.

This cleaner isn’t available on Amazon, but we found it through a trade supplier and so far so good — it comes in fairly large bottles, but that’s probably a good thing! #bricksofinstagram
