Presenting performing arts and film in Downtown Sumter since 1895.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Yesterday, I had the absolute honor of touring the Sumter Opera House while it undergoes major renovations, and y’all…I am absolutely speechless. I am SO excited for all of you to see the hard work, thought, and passion that have gone into this project.

I feel especially fortunate to have met Killis Almond, the architect and visionary behind the project. We had the opportunity to chat for about 20 minutes during my tour, and even in that short time, his love and passion for what he does were so evident. Hearing his vision for this space and seeing how it’s coming to life was absolutely magnificent. He is intentional about partnering with locals to keep the love and care in these spaces because, in his words, “who is going to love and put their whole heart into something more than the locals?” He’s so right!

I particularly love that the goal isn’t to create something new. It is to preserve and restore something we already have - a place with history, character, and a place that so many people already know and love. I know that the Sumter Opera House already holds a special place in the hearts of many in our community, but if you’ve never had the chance to experience the joy and magic of the Sumter Opera House, I hope that changes when those doors reopen. The hope is to give the people of Sumter another reason to love where they live, a place to experience the arts and culture, and another opportunity to come together.

Sumter is home, and I love getting to share the people and places that make it so special!

Come along with me for a day in the life!

I had the absolute privilege of touring the Sumter Opera House (@sumteroperahouse ) today, and I was truly in awe. To say it’s going to be a stunning space is an understatement! More on that in another post!

We had a playdate at Patriot Park after school, and I stopped to see the progress on the updates, including the splash pad and pickleball courts. How exciting to see these spaces continuing to grow for our community!

I’m so proud to call Sumter home, and I love sharing the places, people, and things that make this community so special! And if you’re thinking about making Sumter home, I’d love to help you find your place here. 🏡

We’re still celebrating National Intern Day by sharing an inside look of what our 2026 interns have been up to this summer!

Hudson, Connor, and John Morgan spent the summer gaining hands-on experience in the office and on their jobsites, and they wrapped it all up with a final mock presentation. Thanks for a great summer!

It’s rare to have post-show coverage that felt like the people there and the writer really got it and articulated the mission I’m on, merging @americansongcatcher more and more into my music career and my being.

A few weekends ago I experienced one of my favorite solo shows I’ve played in a LONG time, maybe ever at @sumteroperahouse and the @sumteritem really saw it. Grateful 🙏🏻

I love revisiting old photos. The Sumter Opera House was first built in 1872. The original structure burnt down in 1892 and was rebuilt between 1893-1895. The building has undergone various renovations over the years but the building is still one of the most gorgeous in the downtown area and is a staple in the city. The opera house has been used for various performing arts as well as a city hall.

When you see the clock tower, you know you’re close to Downtown Sumter which has been developed quite a bit over the last several years. An area with local eateries, a brewery, a coffee shop and bakery, a confectionary, historical buildings galore, and my favorite spot - the local library. There is a little something for everyone!
