Louisiana erased a congressional district in four weeks and the Supreme Court never told it to.

In April, the Court ruled in Louisiana v. Callais that the Voting Rights Act didn’t require a second Black-majority district. The next day the governor suspended the state’s congressional primaries, after 42,000 people had already voted. Four weeks later the map was redrawn on party-line votes and signed the same day it passed.

One seat out of six, in a state where one in three people is Black.

Permission isn’t a command. The Court set the limit, the legislature made the choice.

Full breakdown on Medium. Link in bio.

Louisiana, our democracy is on the line.

Lawmakers are moving forward with mid-decade redistricting that could impact our voting power and representation for years to come. We need communities from every corner of the state to show up, speak out, and demand fair maps and fair representation.

Join us Friday, May 8 in Baton Rouge for our Fair Maps Mobilization as we rally at the Capitol and make our voices heard. Your presence matters. Your voice is essential. ✊🏽
