Adding an Etsy weather witch to my preferred vendor list ASAP!!!

Follow @weddingsbywolfe for real wedding planning advice and behind-the-scenes lessons from the Moab desert.

This weekend, Mother Nature REALLY put our contingency plans to the test.

With heavy rain in the forecast, we completely redesigned the reception layout the night before the wedding, moving the dance floor under the tent and rearranging seating to accommodate all 92 guests.

After coordinating a wedding through THAT storm, I’ve officially added three new rules to my outdoor event playbook.

1. CARDBOARD IS CANCELLED

The second cardboard gets soaked, it’s game over. Our décor storage boxes practically disintegrated, leaving us packing supplies into trash bags.
Weatherproof storage bins from here on out.

2. ALWAYS RESERVE THE SIDEWALLS

A tent roof doesn’t help much when the rain comes in sideways.
Pro tip from my tent rental vendor: reserve sidewalls with your initial order. Depending on the rental agreement, you may be able to remove them closer to the wedding if the forecast looks clear.
Better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

3. VENDORS NEED SHELTER TOO

Everyone thinks about keeping guests dry, but what about the people running the event?
Your vendors need protected spaces to stage supplies, organize décor, and keep things moving.
I literally went home and ordered enclosed shade structures for my planner headquarters.
The biggest takeaway? A weather contingency plan isn’t just a backup location. It’s a logistical strategy that protects the entire event.

The desert is unpredictable, but that’s part of what makes it so incredible.
And while the Etsy witch might be worth a shot, I’ll still be bringing my contingency plans.

SAVE this for your outdoor wedding planning checklist.
