"It feels more cathartic to yell and scream and be loud."

@sunnsetter talks to simmering after one of their @secondsummerfestival sets to talk about their non-linear creative process, love of noise, and their many many hats.

They’ve shared stages with @shadkmusic, @badbadnotgood, Lady Wray, @bedouinsoundclash and Brainstory, and taken their soulful sound to Tokyo, Sweden and Texas.

Their 2025 album ‘The Sun Still Shines’ was praised by CBC and featured in @rollingstonefrance.

Okay, but are you ready for Sunnsetter? 👀

Their new album, ‘Heaven hang over me’, sees the band building an unapologetic outward-facing sonic palette, genre-mashing tones and textures around the theme of ever-present anxiety.

Sunnsetter’s Andrew McLeod has played in metal, sludgey and noise rock bands, and says, “The feeling of letting go and yelling and carrying on in front of people in a room is something that really drives me.”

🎟️ Catch @sunnsetter at SSF, Thursday *and* Saturday at @thedancecave. Passes + individual show tickets are on sale now!

Ali is a three-piece musical project originating from Jakarta Indonesia. Initiated by Arswandaru and John Paul Patton, the desire of Ali is to incorporate Middle Eastern culture with elements 70’s Indonesian psychedelic funk, cinematic soul, afro beat, and disco to create a new groove and sound to the contemporary and vibrant Indonesian music scene.

With all lyrics written in Arabic, Ali builds on the influence of Middle Eastern art and music, which over centuries has assimilated itself deep into Indonesian culture and way of life. Also as the cultural heritage of Arswandaru as an Indonesian – Arab mixed to implement the Arabic lyrics.

John Paul (Drums) and Arswandaru (Bass/Vocals) are joined by Absar Lebeh on guitar to complete the trio. They are bringing their self described ‘Middle Easten Beats with South East Twists’ to Indonesia and the world. Ali promises to deliver a diverse and unique experience to the Indonesian music and festival scenes.

What happens when you grow up pissed off, angry, and emotional? You turn it into noise.

Gadfly was formed by Homa and Nigel, with bassist Hansen. It’s a bilingual, genre-obliterating scream in the face of erasure, repression, and whatever fake shit the scene is selling.

It’s not punk. It’s not metal. It’s not shoegaze. It’s not indie. It’s all of it chewed up and spit back out with distortion and disgust.

Think: a loud, sketchy basement show with nihilistic lyrics and a full-blown meltdown.

Think: sweating through trauma in Farsi and English.

Think: grief and rage slamming into a strobe light at the same time….

And this is just the beginning. DIY label. No management. No rules. Just noise, guts, and the need to rupture.

Gadfly isn’t trying to make sense, they’re trying to melt your face off.

Are you ready? Catch @gadfly.band Thursday 24 September at @thedancecave, tickets at the 🔗

Cistern plays like the best bands formed at the periphery: raw, scrappy, intuitive - a group of friends forging awe and anguish into song. Based in Squamish, BC, the band operates with a strong DIY spirit - writing, recording, and producing their own music and visuals. Drawing from 2000s indie rock, 90s slowcore, and 80s post-punk, Cistern combines eclectic influences into a sound that is distinctly their own.

Their latest LP, ‘Rhizome’ (2025), moves between tight post-punk rhythms and spacious melodic passages, tackling everything from flawed power structures to personal relationships and the opioid crisis.

After two European tours in 2025, they’re bringing that raw, immediate energy to SSF. Come get acquainted with @cistern_band, Thursday 24 September at @thedancecave and Friday 25 September at @horseshoetavern - tickets & passes on sale now at the 🔗 in bio!
