This past Saturday, the Student Association had the pleasure of welcoming the SUNY Student Assembly to Geneseo for their meeting in Milne Library.

Our own SA President, Lucas Pastwik, who also serves as Vice President of the SUNY Student Assembly, presented his report alongside updates from each member of the Assembly. Our 2025-26 Vice President, Jason Tolevski, then led the group on a tour of campus so our guests could see the beauty of Geneseo. After lunch provided by CAS, we had the chance to connect with student leaders from across the state and trade ideas about how we serve our campuses.

Thank you to SUNY SA for choosing Geneseo, and to everyone who helped make the day happen. 💙

New York is ranked as one of the *most* expensive states for higher education. This is what the Dems are doing to make it more affordable! 📚🎓🏫

ICYMI: Governor Kathy Hochul has eliminated mandatory fees for 7,500+ SUNY graduate student workers. The state completed a four-year phase-out of mandatory fees at SUNY state-operated campuses, saving each affected graduate worker an average of $2,000/year. This is a vital part of Governor Hochul’s larger plan to make higher education more affordable for everyday New Yorkers.

Over 7 million student loan borrowers are about to face major changes.

If you’re enrolled in the SAVE Plan, you may soon receive a notice giving you just 90 days to choose a new repayment plan. If you don’t take action, you could be automatically placed into the Standard Repayment Plan—one of the most expensive repayment options available.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Log in to StudentAid.gov, check your loan status, update your contact information, and understand your repayment options before your deadline arrives.

You are not alone. Stay informed, share this with someone who has student loans, and help make sure no borrower is caught off guard.

We believe college should be free. Learn more at usstudentassociation.org

This morning, SUNY Chancellor John King Jr. delivered his 2026 State of the University address in Albany.

Chancellor King outlined a wide range of new and expanded initiatives across the system. On the career side, $7.25 million from the new state budget will fund the SUNY Career Connected initiative, supporting internships, research opportunities, and public service placements with local and regional employers. SUNY Reconnect, which already provides free community college tuition to New York residents ages 25-55 without a degree, is also expanding. Adults with degrees who want to pursue nursing will now be eligible.

On the student experience front, the Academic Momentum Campaign is growing from 7,000 students across 34 campuses to 10,000 students across 44 campuses, with a focus on retention and degree completion. The Empire State Service Corps, the largest AmeriCorps program in New York State, will double in size this fall, expanding paid public service opportunities to 50 campuses. And starting this summer, SUNY will implement automatic voter registration for all eligible students when they register for classes.

As Vice President, I’ll be keeping an eye on how these initiatives roll out across the system, and making sure our students’ voices are part of that conversation. #sunysa #suny

Two weeks ago, SUNY Broome SGA had the opportunity to attend the Student Assembly of the State University of New York Spring Conference in Albany, NY

We were proud to be represented by our voting delegate Ahmet Algi, who participated in elections and voted on key resolutions on behalf of our student body

Our SUNY Broome delegation included Ahmet Algi, Muhammad Shahmeer Abbas, Muhammad Adnan Safdar, and Viviana Ricci, all working together to represent and advocate for our campus

It was an amazing experience connecting with student leaders from across SUNY, sharing ideas, and learning how we can continue improving student life at Broome

Experiences like this remind us of the power of student voices and leadership in creating real change 💙
