10 years ago today, the hip hop group De La Soul their eighth album released💽"and the Anonymous Nobody..." on August 26th, 2016 by AOI Records and Kobalt Music Group. The album was produced by themselves De La Soul, Jordan Katz, Dave Palmer, Davey Chegwidden, Ethan Phillips, Joshua Matthew Lopez, Kaveh Rastegar, Money Mark, Pete Rock and Supa Dave West. In the United States, And the Anonymous Nobody... debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200, with 23,000 album-equivalent units, marking the fifth highest debut of the week. It was the seventh best-selling album of the week, selling 21,000 copies in its first week. And the Anonymous Nobody... was the first De La Soul album to debut at number one on the Billboard Top Rap Albums. The album was also streamed 2 million times in the first week. It was nominated at the 59th Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album.

An unprecedented SEVEN of De La Soul’s albums have been deemed worthy of inclusion in The Nines, meaning we the staff have held them up as albums you should consider absolutely essential as a hip-hop head. So you wanted the answer to the question – was “and the Anonymous Nobody” worth the long wait for its release? I’ve admitted my bias up front and despite that if I knocked a single point off this album I’d be doing De La Soul a disservice. I wish there was a mini movie to go along with it – and if that’s the only complaint I have about “and the Anonymous Nobody” then there’s nothing to complain about at all. #AndTheAnonymousNobody10 #RIPTrugoyTheDove

Released on August 24, 2004, “The Best Of E-40: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” is the first greatest hits compilation from legendary Bay Area rapper E-40 (@e40) 💵
Released on Sick Wid It Records/Jive Records (@sickwiditrecords), “The Best Of E-40: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” included some of 40’s best known songs from the first decade of his career, as well as some newly released tracks. Representing Vallejo, California, E-40 began his rap career in the late ‘80s. With commercial success as both a solo artist and as a member of The Click, 40 Fonzarelli was the undisputed ambassador of the Bay Area by the 2000s. As his long running deal with Jive Records was coming to an end, the label would release the greatest hits compilation titled “The Best Of E-40: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” in 2004. Including the new single ‘Thick & Thin’, as well as tracks from albums such as “Federal”, “In A Major Way”, and “The Element Of Surprise”, “The Best Of E-40: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” landed at number 133 on the Billboard 200. Artists featured on the compilation include B-Legit (@blegit72), Suga T (@suga_t_), Too Short (@tooshort), Fabolous (@myfabolouslife), Bone Crusher (@therealbonecrusher), Lil Mo (@thelilmoshow), and The Federation (@thefederationnft), among others 💵
Already established as an icon on the West Coast, 40 Water began collaborating with Atlanta crunk producer Lil Jon (@liljon) by the early 2000s. After fulfilling his deal with Jive, E-Feezy ultimately signed with Lil Jon’s BME Recordings, returning with the hyphy anthem ‘Tell Me When To Go’ in 2006 💵

@plugwondelasoul this one’s for you 😝🫠 Happy almost Birthday 🎂

For context, De La has been fam for three decades or so…literally met Pos when I was 19 years old. So, the week this album dropped in 2000
(26 years ago 🤌🏽😵‍💫🤌🏽😵‍💫🤌🏽) we were on the phone and you said “did you listen to the album yet” and I said I hadn’t listened to it yet and you said “YO B!!! We have other albums besides De La Soul Is Dead!!” I remember it like it was yesterday 🤣😝🤌🏽 I slept on it at the time so when I found out today was the 26th Anniversary, I had to do an impromptu VINYL STORIES as my redemption song! I love this album, I love it bad!! Editing for reels is ridiculously annoying trying to squeeze everything into 3mins - I also mentioned the @tash_of_tha_alkaholiks @jrofromthaliks joint with @xzibit called “My Writes” and “Declaration”

@vinnymerlot if I hear a song with a MASEO verse it’s an instant favorite because YOUR MEGA!!!!!!!

⚡️‼️⚡️Happiest Anniversary guys ⚡️‼️⚡️This one is special…

And as always, THANK YOU, DAVE 🕊️
