📍Supernova | 🚇: Tanjong Katong/Dakota MRT

I barely ever make my way to the East, so since I was already in Joo Chiat, I HAD to check out this viral cafe 👀☕️ I went on a weekday during lunch and it was surprisingly quite empty, so thankfully there was no queue at all 🙌🏻 Also… FREE WATER in this economy??? Huge plus already 💧😭

(Swipe for individual dish reviews 👉🏻)

Overall, I can definitely see why Supernova gets so much hype 🌟 I probably wouldn’t travel all the way to the East just for it, but if I was in the area again, I’d happily come back! Especially for that grilled cheese 😮‍💨🧀

Beef Steak Don ($22.5++) 🥩🍚

The runny yolk in the middle was sooo satisfying to cut into and watch ooze all over the beef 🍳🤤 It coated every piece of beef in this rich, creamy layer and added so much flavour without overpowering the meat. The caramelised onions were also such a good addition 🧅 sweet, savoury and paired really nicely with the beef. Honestly, the quality of the steak was much better than I expected too! Definitely a super solid bowl.

Salmon Soba Bowl ($22.5++) 🍣🍜

This was kinda underwhelming tbh 🥲 The sauce was some sort of Greek yoghurt-based sauce, but I found it way too thick to properly dress the soba and salmon. I think I would’ve much preferred a variation of a traditional Japanese cold soba sauce, something lighter and more refreshing 🌿 Because of this, the whole dish ended up feeling a little dry. They were VERY generous with the noodles 🍜 but the salmon portion was quite small in comparison, so the protein-to-carb ratio felt super off 😭 Towards the end I was basically just eating plain soba because I’d run out of everything else. The furikake and egg were nice touches though 🥚🌸 but overall, I’d pass on this one.

Truffle Grilled Cheese with Tatertots ($19.9++) 🥪🥔

JUST WOWWWW. If you could only get one thing here, it HAS to be this!!! 🤯💥 I actually think it’s quite worth the price considering you get both the grilled cheese AND a whole side of tater tots. The grilled cheese was genuinely PHENOMENAL 🫠 The cheese was insanely melty, and that cheese pull??? Chef’s kisssss 👩🏻‍🍳💋 The truffle flavour came through really stron

Happy Birthday to #shaunjansen one of the founding members of local music band Supernova who used to work as a marketing executive for a carpet tile manufacturing company. Having a strong passion in music 🎶🎤🎸 he had entered competitions such as the NEA Eco Music Challenge in 2012, and his band represented 🇸🇬 in The Journey of the Youth Olympics Flame in Africa in 2010. But it was his participation in the first season of #thefinal1sg that marked his first step towards a career as a solo performer; having survived the Wildcard round (he was the last competitor chosen by the judges) and the Judges Choice round, Shaun advanced to the finals (coincidentally on his 28th birthday!) and competed against Farisha Ishak at the Star Performing Arts Theater in late August 2013, ending up 2nd place. He signed with Hyper arecords soon after and was one of the writers for The 5 Show theme song. He also hosted the 2nd season of The 5 Show alongside Nadiah M.Din in the latter half of 2015. He occasionally duets with Leo Goh who sports long hair just like him.
Other facts about Shaun...
🎸 He was born in the year Funan Centre, Sheng Siong Supermarket and NUH opened. That year, Mr Wee Kim Wee became the 4th President of Singapore.
🎸 He's the same age with Romeo Tan, Darryl Yong, Liv Lo, Silver Ang, Vivienne Wong, Andie Chen, Tracy Lee, Zhong Kunhua, Dylan Quek, Siti Khalijah, Ryan Lian, Derrick Hoh, Tan Diya, Joey Feng, and Melissa Faith Yeo.

My Wish: was for everyone to enjoy themselves

Officially first full end-to-end cycle, and yes, there's so much to be grateful for:

Thankful for those who demonstrated kindness,
Thankful for those who showed understanding,
Thankful for those who offered support,
And thankful for all the thoughtful gestures shown.

Like I always say, "I / we do what we can"
And truly, everyone deserves their flowers *presents flowers.
A special mention to all those who volunteered and contributed to the magic.

My only remaining wish was to be able to afford some time to slow down the moment and strike conversations with many more of you.

Beyond the glitz and the glam, thank you, for sharing the time and moment together.
(My personal appreciation will be sent via DM)

"Make your wish, oh make your wish
The universe is on our side
Make your wish, oh make your wish
Let us celebrate this one more time"

I made a wish… and somehow ended up on this 马(ma-)rvellous stage with some of Singapore’s finest talents at @chingayparadesg . 🧧🔥

Thank you @bertyversesg and our MD @hubertyuzhe for the incredible music behind this 90-minute spectacle. 🧨The past two months brought new friendships, unforgettable memories, and a whole lot of magic behind the scenes. Also a pleasure catching up with Minister @edwintong , SPS @ericchuasl.sg , and so many familiar faces along the way 😇

Most of all, I’m feeling especially grateful to live in our multicultural Singapore, celebrating harmony above all in this time. 🇸🇬❤️‍🔥🤍❤️

For Chingay, my wish was simple — that everyone left the stadium remembering at least one melody we wrote. That somewhere in those 90 minutes of music, spanning different styles and influences, there was at least one moment that stayed with you.✨

if you read till here, i actually copied it from my boss @hubertyuzhe . Couldn’t have written it any better. Thank you for trusting me to be your assistant Music Director when i didn’t even trust myself 😂 the times we created music for this Chingay will always be priceless to me.

From myself, Thank you to everyone who answered our texts, calls or re-calls(iykyk) even at 12am because if boss and i weren’t not breathing, we’re working on Chingay. So we really appreciate all the love everyone has given!

In the end, nothing can be kept except memories, so very grateful to every talented individuals for all these beautiful memories :)

It has been lovely to work with all of you and I am so grateful that you made my first Chingay such a memorable one.

So, what is your Chingay Wish this year? ✨

For Chingay, my wish was simple — that everyone left the stadium remembering at least one melody we wrote. That somewhere in those 90 minutes of music, spanning different styles and influences, there was at least one moment that stayed with you.

From recording in North Macedonia to China and Singapore, we wanted to create a sound that felt truly global, constantly stepping beyond our comfort zones to make it happen.

Very blessed to have worked with so many talented individuals along this journey. You inspire me more than you know. ✨ #chingay2026

A pretty special stage to perform on, with Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer in the background.
