Choosing to heal out loud

My name is Sabrina. I've spent most of my life being the strong one, the one who handles things, keeps going, shows up. In January 2026, my body asked me to rethink all of that. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, commonly known as lupus. Today I'm still learning what that means for who I'm becoming.

I’m creating this page, not out of a need for sympathy or pity, but because I need a place to document my journey, process what I'm learning, and hopefully help someone else feel a little less alone.

For years, my body was giving me signs that something wasn't right. Looking back, there were symptoms, reactions, warning signals that I didn't fully understand and truthfully ignored.

Like so many black women I know, I've spent much of my life being strong, pushing through pain, taking care of others, and simply handling whatever came my way.

Lupus is teaching me that this lifestyle is not sustainable.

It's teaching me to slow down.
To listen to my body.
To protect my peace.
To rest without guilt.
And maybe for the first time, to choose myself.

I'm not a doctor or a therapist.

I'm simply a woman sharing her story in hopes that it helps someone else while helping me heal along the way.

If you're on a health journey of your own, welcome. You belong here.

You're not alone. 💜
